In the wake of Doctor Strange’s sudden passing, the X-Men are attacked by a deadly force that makes them a prime target for the Black Knight.
The premature death of Doctor Strange has had unintended consequences for the X-Men. In Death of Doctor Strange, an attack on Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme leaves the planet vulnerable to mystical mayhem.
Seeking to aid in the global clean-up effort, the X-Men travel to London to protect the city. Unfortunately, they are overwhelmed and seemingly left to perish after being consumed by a mysterious magical entity. For better or worse, Death of Doctor Strange: Black Knight/X-Men #1 reveals the tale of the X-Men’s deaths has been greatly exaggerated, as Marvel’s mighty mutants have transformed into giant monsters. Preview art for the issue by Bob Quinn shows the X-Men’s powers will influence the shape of their new bodies, with Sunfire consumed by fire, Cyclops turned into a giant gladiator and Wolverine twisted into a feral beast.
The X-Men’s conundrum will be discovered in the issue by London’s newest protector and the current Black Knight, Jackie Chopra. Alongside her father, Dane Whitman, Jackie wields the ebony blade, a magical sword that Merlyn himself forged. Marvel’s solicit copy for Death of Doctor Strange: Black Knight/X-Men #1 teases another sword enthusiast will join the two heroes– Faiza Hussain, wielder of Excalibur. Together, the ensemble will serve as London’s last line of defense and the key to saving the X-Men from themselves before an even more dangerous threat arrives.
While the X-Men’s horrifying situation draws the attention of the UK’s top heroes, the death of Doctor Strange has had substantial ramifications for the entire Marvel universe. With Stephen Strange out of the picture, his long-term love-interest Clea will be stepping up as Marvel’s new Sorcerer Supreme in the aptly-titled Strange. Starting in March, the series will pair writer Jed MacKay and artist Marcelo Ferreira as Clea attempts to bring her former flame back to life. At the same time, Strange will see Clea adjust to life on Earth, as she protects the realm from magical threats, including undead super monsters and the Blasphemy Syndicate, a group of magical gangsters.
