Official art for Marvel Legends’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness figures show off a new look for Defender Strange, and it’s not the suit.

Promotional art for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offered a closer look at the design for Defender Strange, including actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s new ponytail.

As reported by The Direct, the art appeared on the official packaging for a “Defender Strange” figure, which debuted as part of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends line. This Variant of Doctor Strange not only sports his comics-accurate Defender costume but a new hairstyle as well, with Cumberbatch drawn to include a long ponytail, which is likely full of secrets.

Strange’s Defenders attire for the Marvel Cinematic Universe was revealed by Hasbro for its Marvel Legends line of figures. In a costume similar to what first appeared in 2011’s Defenders #1 from Marvel Comics, this Variant of Strange dons a streamlined red-and-black suit sans Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation. The first poster for Multiverse of Madness revealed that the upcoming MCU entry will feature more than one version of the Sorceror Supreme as teased in the film’s first trailer, which premiered as a post-credit scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“There’s a lot of stuff going on in it…,” Cumberbatch said of Multiverse of Madness in a previous interview. “No, there’s great stuff for me to do. It’s very busy. It’s called The Multiverse of Madness, and it’s bonkers,” Cumberbatch said.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently undergoing “significant reshoots,” which began filming in November with director Sam Raimi returning to helm the additional material. He was joined by writer Michael Waldron, who served as head writer for Marve’s Loki Disney+ series. Raimi took over directorial duties from Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and departed the sequel in September 2020 over creative differences.

The potential for new characters to appear in the sequel is vast, as Multiverse of Madness will continue to expand on the MCU’s growing multiverse. While it has been confirmed that the film will introduce America Chavez/Miss America (played by Xochitl Gomez), a recent report also stated that the reshoots will include even more cameos and character introductions than originally intended. While the characters themselves haven’t been confirmed, sources report that the film will have “more fun with the multiverse” following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As for cameos, the new line of action figures for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also offered a first look at the possible introduction of Rintrah to the MCU, an alien minotaur that appeared in Marvel Comics as one of Doctor Strange’s apprentices. It was also confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch, as the events of WandaVision will tie in directly to the sequel. Olsen wrapped filming on her Doctor Strange reshoots in September.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022.
