A now-deleted product description for a Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness tie-in shirt teases the arrival of a multiversal Avengers team.
WARNING: The following article contains potential spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in theaters May 6.
An official tie-in product for director Sam Raimi’s upcoming Marvel Studios film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to suggest that a multiversal version of the Avengers will factor into the story in some capacity.
Recently, an Amazon listing went live for the Marvel Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness Avengers Logo Premium T-Shirt. There’s not too much to the shirt, simply featuring a silver and red Avengers logo. While the design does look vaguely Doctor Strange-esque, it’s honestly more reminiscent of the 2015 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Age of Ultron.
What makes it interesting is the fact that, initially, the shirt was specifically branded as being a Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness product. What’s more, the original product description read as follows: “Experience Doctor Strange in a whole-new mind-bending adventure with Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This Avengers t-shirt showcases the Avengers logo for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that might just be from a whole new multiverse. Available in youth and adult sizes. Get it in a t-shirt, premium t-shirt, tank top, v-neck, long sleeve tee, and sweatshirt.”
However, the listing has since been updated. The shirt itself is now simply called “Marvel Avengers Silver and Red Logo Premium T-Shirt,” with the updated description reading, “Avengers Assemble! This silver and red Avengers t-shirt showcases the Avengers ‘A’ logo worn by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Available in youth and adult sizes. Get it in a t-shirt, premium t-shirt, tank top, v-neck, long sleeve tee, and sweatshirt.” That said, the listing’s URL does still reference Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s unclear if the original version of the listing was a genuine error, or if legitimate information about the Doctor Strange sequel was published too early.
After all, while some tie-in products have offered details about upcoming films ahead of time, not everything on a t-shirt or in a toy set pans out. It is worth mentioning, however, that Marvel Studios’ Disney+ animated series What If…? did recently introduce a multiversal “Avengers” team in the form of the Guardians of the Multiverse. This is especially interesting, seeing as how Multiverse of Madness‘ first teaser trailer features the live-action debut of what appears to be Strange Supreme, the evil variant of Doctor Strange from What If…?. That being said, if Multiverse of Madness does indeed feature its own Avengers team, it’s unclear if it will actually be the Guardians of the Multiverse, or something else entirely.
At any rate, it would certainly be bizarre for a shirt featuring the Avengers logo to be branded as a Doctor Strange product if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes didn’t factor in the sequel in one way or another. There is an official Loki shirt featuring its own spin on the Avengers logo, but even Loki Season 1 featured some Avengers cameos via recap footage from Avengers: Endgame. Nevertheless, with the multiverse open and all bets off, it seems like Doctor Strange will have his hands full in his next solo outing.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases in theaters on May 6.
