Merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may hint at a multiversal variant of the Scarlet Witch.
Official merchandise for the Doctor Strange sequel featuring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is listed on clothing brand Red Wolf’s website as “Red Scarlet,” as opposed to the less-redundant Scarlet Witch. In comparison, other official Marvel Studios merch available on Red Wolf is labeled with accurate character names, including other merch for Multiverse of Madness. While “Red Scarlet” could be an internal name for the character, it presents the possibility that the sequel could also feature a Scarlet Witch from another dimension, especially with the large number of variants that are expected to appear in the film.
It’s been known that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see a variety of variants from a plethora of different dimensions, with a recent synopsis further confirming the “alternate realities” that will be depicted in the film. While the trailer for the upcoming sequel teased more than one version of Doctor Strange, a poster released by Marvel Studios also hinted at the possibility of more than one Scarlet Witch as well.
Olsen’s reprisal of her role as Wanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appeared in the first trailer for Multiverse of Madness, which premiered as an end-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. It has also been confirmed that WandaVision will tie directly into the Doctor Strange sequel, which will also pick up after the events of No Way Home and Marvel’s Disney+ series, Loki, both of which dealt heavily with the multiverse. Olsen wrapped filming on her Doctor Strange reshoots in September.
In January, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness officially wrapped reshoots that began in mid-November 2021, which were described as “significant” at the time. The additional material was helmed by director Sam Raimi who was joined by writer Michael Waldron, who served as head writer for Loki. Raimi took over directorial duties from Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and departed the sequel over creative differences. A previous report stated that those reshoots would include even more cameos and character introductions than originally intended. While the characters themselves haven’t been confirmed, sources report that the film will have “more fun with the multiverse” following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently slated to release on May 6, 2022.
