Director Seiji Kishi posted on Twitter on Saturday that he is recruiting an original character designer for his new, original anime project with scriptwriter Makoto Uezu. The job position is open to both professional and amateur artists, regardless of age. Kishi specifically added that overseas artists are welcome to apply.
Applicants must send one or two pieces of art in JPEG format to the [email protected] email address by October 20. The staff will contact the winning applicant by email by the end of the year. (Other applicants may not receive a response by the end of year, and Kishi apologizes in advance for not being able to respond to all questions regarding the position.) Kishi assures applicants that the staff will responsibly take of the submitted art data and not use them for any other purpose besides screening applicants.
Kishi and Uezu have collaborated on several anime, including Arpeggio of Blue Steel – Ars Nova, Assassination Classroom, Aura: Koga Maryuin’s Last War, Carnival Phantasm, Danganronpa The Animation, Devil Survivor 2 The Animation, Fate/Grand Carnival, Fate/Prototype, Humanity Has Declined, Kamisama Dolls, Kengan Ashura, My Bride is a Mermaid, Radiant, Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace, Tentai Senshi Sunred, and Yuki Yuna Is a Hero. They also co-wrote a 2016 book, Sekai o Kaeru Anime no Tsukuri-kata (How to Make Anime That Transforms the World, pictured right).
Update: Kishi added that applicants do not need to know Japanese. He assured a person who was worried about animators’ low compensation that this position is a proper job.
