Denise Villeneuve Gives Fans an Update on His ‘Dune’ Sequel

While at the Producers Guild Awards last night, director Denise Villeneuve spoke to Deadline about the upcoming sequel to his adaptation of the Frank Herbert classic series Dune. Prep for the sequel is underway with a fall shoot in mind, returning the cast and crew to Jordan for filming.

Vlleneuve said of the sequel: “It’s going to be another beautiful journey in the desert again. It’s the journey where Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, make contact with the Fremen culture and meet with the Fremen. It’s Paul’s journey against the enemy. It’s a movie that will be more cinematic.”

And when asked about word that Florence Pugh was being considered for the role of Princess Irulan Corrino, Villeneuve simply said: “There’s been rumors.”

Dune has been nominated for 10 Oscars including best picture and best adapted screenplay.
