Denis Villeneuve Would ‘Deeply Love’ to Make a James Bond Film
Following Daniel Craig’s recent retirement from the James Bond franchise, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is aiming to be the one to reinvent the franchise. No Time to Die has finally arrived in theaters after a long wait and multiple release date delays, bringing Craig’s 5-movie stint as Agent 007 to a finale. The franchise will probably continue with a different actor in the lead role at some point in the future, but there are no current plans to make Bond 26.
Villeneuve made an appearance on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast last week. The Dune filmmaker expressed his ambition to helm a James Bond film, stating that he has always been an admirer of the character.
“Frankly, the answer would be a massive yes. I would deeply love one day to make a James Bond movie. It’s a character that I’ve been with since my childhood. I have massive affection for Bond. It would be a big challenge to try and reboot it after what Daniel did. What Daniel Craig brought to Bond was so unique and strong and honestly unmatchable. He’s the ultimate James Bond. I can’t wait to see Cary’s movie. I’m very excited. I’m one of the biggest Bond fans. I don’t know if such a thing would happen, but it would be a privilege. That would be pure cinematic joy.”
Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond is coming to a close with the release of No Time to Die, but many fans are already looking forward to the next adventure. Although series producer Barbara Broccoli has stated that casting discussions will not begin until at least 2022, several fans have been advocating for their favorite actors to be cast. Henry Cavill is one of the most popular candidates, having already been considered for the role before Daniel Craig was cast. Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Regé-Jean Page are among the other actors that have garnered support.
Finally Time for ‘No Time to Die’ – What’s Next for 007?
Denis Villeneuve is currently awaiting the results of his Dune adaptation, which will be released later this month.
