Death of the Justice League: Which Hero Is Most Likely to Survive

[ad_1]

Ten of the Justice League’s strongest heroes face off against the Dark Army and only one will survive the cataclysmic battle.

Previews of April’s Justice League #75 shocked comic readers. When ten of the Justice League’s strongest heroes face off against the Dark Army, nine will die, and only one will survive. There have been many hints dropped about who will die, including a preview cover showing dozens of heroes at a funeral next to five heroes’ caskets. But the lone survivor’s identity is still up in the air. Here’s a look at the ten heroes, their chances of survival, and our best theory as to who will survive to tell the tale of the death of the Justice League.

Black Canary

Black Canary Uses Her Sonic Scream.

Black Canary is an expert melee combatant, and her Canary Cry allows her to defeat enemies stronger than her. However, her fighting prowess doesn’t put her on the same level as her invulnerable peers. As a result, she is doubtful to survive if she faces off against waves of superpowered supervillains. If she were to overcome the odds, though, it would radically change her character because she may have to contend with survivor’s guilt from losing her lover Green Arrow.

Green Lantern

While he’s one of the strongest Green Lanterns, John Stewart is not the first Green Lantern when people think of the Emerald Knight. The funeral cover preview confirms he will die, though. The same cover also shows four other Earth-based Lanterns grieving him. Given that there are so many other Lanterns, his death allows less published ones like Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz to enter the spotlight as they face the same villains who killed one of their own.

Hawkgirl

For Hawkgirl, death is a recurring event. She, alongside Hawkman, was cursed to be destined to meet, fall in love, then die soon after, only to be reincarnated and repeat the cycle. Given that her eventual death is etched into destiny, the Justice League’s final battle could end her current incarnation. However, Hawkgirl and Hawkman’s previous death often occurred in relative proximity to each other. Since only Hawkgirl is accompanying the Justice League here, it’s possible this isn’t her fated end, and she will return to Earth.

Wonder Woman

The final piece of DC’s Trinity, Wonder Woman, is the second strongest hero in the League. Tragically, the funeral preview cover already foretold her death. However, similar to Jon Kent, Wonder Girl Yara Flor recently burst onto the scene to a lot of fanfare, and it’s already been shown that she becomes Wonder Woman during Future State.

Zatanna

Ultimately, the heroes most likely to die are those who have already trained others to replace them and therefore won’t leave massive holes in the superhero world. Superman and Batman have Jon and Damian, respectively. The heroes most likely to survive, like Hawkgirl and Zatanna, are less popular ones who occupy unique roles that aren’t easily replaceable. Whichever hero survives the battle, their position as the lone survivor of one of DC’s most tragic battles will put a massive spotlight on them.
