Dean Cain, who played Superman in the TV show Lois & Clark, believes DC Comics’ choice to make the new Superman bisexual is neither innovative nor brave, adding that the publisher would be bolder if the Man of Steel tackled topics such as gay oppression in Iran or women under the Taliban.
During an appearance on Fox News’ morning show Fox & Friends on Tuesday, Dean Cain voiced his thoughts on Superman.

“They said it’s a bold new direction, I say they’re band-wagoning,” Cain said referring to the rising number of comic book superheroes that have already recently been re-imagined as gay. “I don’t think it’s bold or brave or some crazy new direction. If they had done this 20 years ago, perhaps that would have been bold or brave.”

The actor said there are bigger issues the comic book writers could be addressing: “But brave would be having him fight for the rights of gay people in Iran where they’ll throw you off a building for the offence of being gay.”
Superman is the second DC hero to come out as LGBTQ+ in recent months, along with the current incarnation of Robin ready to begin dating a homosexual man in a recent issue of Batman: Urban Legends. In the comics, this Superman is known as Jon Kent, the son of Clark.

Cain added: “They’re talking about having him fight climate change and the deportation of refugees, and he’ll be dating a hacktivist — whatever a hactivist is. I don’t know. Why don’t they have him fight the injustices that created the refugees whose deportation he’s protesting? That would be brave, I’d read that. Or fighting for the rights of women to attend school and have the ability to work and live and boys not to be raped by men under the new warm and fuzzy Taliban. That would be brave. There’s real evil in this world today, real corruption and government overreach, plenty of things to fight against. Human trafficking — real and actual slavery going on.”

Earlier this week, DC Comics announced the new Superman, Jonathan Kent — son aof Clark Kent and Lois Lane — will begin having a romantic relationship with a special male friend.
“The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another straight white savior felt like a missed opportunity,” said the writer, Tom Taylor in a promotional interview with the New York Times.
Sounds like someone that never really liked Superman, and as a straight, Australian writer with liberal views, some have questioned why he’s writing a gay character, and others wonder why he is writing an American icon that fights for “truth, justice, and the American way.”
Actor Dean Cain, an outspoken conservative who supported former president Donald Trump, has previously criticized attempts to make Superman more politically correct.
After trash comic book news site CBR called for a non-white person to be cast as Superman in 2019, Cain – who is partially of Japanese descent – responded, “You’re about 25 years too late.”
