Dead By Daylight’s latest update implements unbalanced changes that make it virtually impossible for the Killer to hook Survivors.
Mid-season update 5.5.0 recently dropped for Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that pits four survivors against a killer. One of the more important inclusions in the update is the removal of Leatherface’s collectible survivor masks that were creating a stir in the community. In addition, the update includes bug fixes, beta features, buffs and debuffs for perks and more. However, sometimes the perfect storm of changes can lead to unintended consequences.
Many of the game’s players feel frustrated with the latest update, specifically those who play the killer in the game. Changes to the game include buffs to “Boil Over,” a Survivor Perk that helps survivors wiggle out of the Killer’s grasp, as well as a replacement wiggle mechanic that consists of quick-time events. Originally, Boil Over gave Survivors a 75% buff to wiggle effects and obscured hooks within 14 meters of them when grasped by the Killer, making it harder for the Killer to walk straight to a hook while carrying survivors. However, the buffed version of this perk changes wiggle effectiveness from 75% to 100% and the obscuring distance from 14 meters to 16 meters. This combination has created an exploit that stacks matches in the Survivors’ favor.

These changes make the perk more viable, but the developers went one step further by giving the perk an additional, brand-new effect. Now, if a killer falls from a certain height, Boil Over grants 25% wiggle progress to the Survivor instantly. Without the right Killer Perks, Boil Over is very hard to overcome and will result in a lot of frustration. However, even with the right perk set, Survivors can still abuse the perk’s newfound power by camping out in areas on the map that force the Killer to drop a certain distance, making it impossible for the Killer to hook a Survivor and nearly impossible to win a match.
Killers that want to counter this perk will wish to run Iron Grasp, which is luckily available to all killers in the Bloodweb. This perk reduces wiggle effects on the Killer by 75% and makes it take 12% longer for Survivors to wiggle out of their grasp. This perk will directly counter the effects of Boil Over, hopefully evening the playing field. Allowing players to run specific perks that overload their chances at winning creates a situation that makes the game less enjoyable. The hope is that Boil Over receives a nerf soon that keeps players from abusing its power and restores balance to Dead by Daylight’s game of Cat-and-Mouse.
