DC Comics’ The Annotated Sandman Vol. 1 returns for a brand-new printing in March 2022.
The annotated edition of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is heading back to print early next year.
Per DC Comics’ November 2021 solicitations, The Annotated Sandman Vol. 1 returns with a brand-new printing on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. The 560-page hardcover reprints the first 20 issues of The Sandman, which are “annotated with page-by-page, panel-by-panel commentary explaining the history, references, hidden meanings and other behind-the-scenes details from the making of this unforgettable series.”
Edited and annotated by Leslie S. Klinger, The Annotated Sandman Vol. 1 was initially published in 2012 under DC’s now-defunct Vertigo imprint, with subsequent volumes following suit. The new Vol. 1 printing set to arrive in comic shops next March retails for $49.99 USD, which is sure to delight prospective collectors who have been holding out for a better price. (Asking prices for copies from the original printing currently hover around $100 on eBay.)
Written by Gaiman and illustrated by the likes of Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III and Chris Bachalo, among others, Vertigo Comics’ The Sandman originally launched in 1989. One of the most critically-acclaimed comics of all time, the dark fantasy title was among the very first graphic novels to appear on the New York Times Best Seller list. A live-action series based on the comic is currently in the works at Netflix.
