DC’s Newest Superhero Doctor Multiverse May Also Be Its Most Powerful

[ad_1]

Justice League Incarnate is about to introduce a new hero to defend the multiverse, and this mysterious character may be DC’s most powerful hero.

After Dark Nights: Death Metal restored all of DC history and propelled the 52 worlds of the DC Multiverse into the infinite Omniverse, the multiversal threats posed to all reality have become greater and even more unknowable. Plus, with the Infinite Frontier miniseries setting up a race between Justice Incarnate and Darkseid, the multiverse’s Justice League has its work cut out for it. However, this team is about to get a serious power boost – perhaps the greatest in all the multiversal.

The solicitations for Justice League Incarnate #1, launching in November, revealed that the team would get a new mysterious member known only as Doctor Multiverse. Though readers will have to wait until the new series debuts before they get the whole picture on who this new hero is, DC revealed some key details about who she is with a brief character profile from DC Nation.

Justice League Incarnate's Doctor Multiverse

To fully understand the origins of Doctor Multiverse requires an understanding of what’s been going on in the Infinite Frontier series and the multiverse in general. In the final issue, Justice Incarnate clashed with Darkseid and his Injustice Incarnate on the dark world of Earth Omega. The Dark Lord of Apokolips sought to control the Multiverse and though he was stopped by Justice Incarnate, he created a crack in the multiverse. Now he seeks to exploit this crack in reality to control something he refers to as the Great Darkness.

When Darkseid created this fracture in the multiverse, the multiverse decided to fight back. As an “autoimmune response,” it created its own superhero to defend itself. It chose Dr. Maya Chambers of Earth-8, who was on a space expedition when she was blasted with cosmic energy. Like most superhero origins, this incident granted her incredible abilities, however, said abilities are leagues beyond what most heroes develop.

Maya has the usual superpowers such as flight, enhanced durability, and even teleportation but some of her more remarkable powers also make her totally unique. The most intriguing among these is multivison – this allows Doctor Multiverse to see all the different variants a person has across the multiverse. But when she used her multivision on herself, she discovered that she has no variants. Maya is a once-in-a-generation metahuman who can channel the life-force of the multiverse when it’s threatened by something that no single universe’s forces can handle, like Darkseid and the other villains he’s racing against.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, looking over Doctor Multiverse’s powers again with this new information makes her seem even more powerful still. She also possesses the powers of energy manipulation and cosmic tracking. Though at first, these seem like the standard, albeit powerful abilities, putting them in a multiversal context makes them dramatically more powerful still. Most heroes who can manipulate energy do so from the energy of their own universe, but Maya can manipulate energy from across the multiverse. Now that the multiverse is part of the omniverse too, she could conceivably draw upon an infinite amount of power. As well as that, her cosmic tracking isn’t universal – it’s multiversal – which gives her the ability to track across multiple realities.

If Maya Chambers was chosen to defend the multiverse from a super-charged Darkseid and the fiercest evils of the DC Universe, then the power she holds has to be beyond anything that’s come before. If the multiverse looked at numerous versions of Supermen, some of whom have punches that can change reality itself, and decided that none of them were strong enough to defeat Darkseid, not even with their fellow Justice Leaguers, then Doctor Multiverse could be the most powerful being DC has ever seen.
