A classic DC Comics vampire returns to the DCU in an official preview for DC vs. Vampires #1, the first issue in a 12-part limited series that pits the Justice League against a horde of blood-sucking undead.
Written by the duo of James Tynion IV and Matthew Rosenberg and illustrated by Otto Schmidt, DC vs. Vampires #1 hits comic shops this Tuesday, Oct. 26 — just in time for Halloween. The issue features a main cover by Schmidt, as well as variant covers by the likes of Francesco Mattina, Jorge Molina and Ejikure.
DC’s preview for DC vs. Vampires #1 opens on none other than Andrew Bennett, aka “I, Vampire,” who appears to be in a very bad way as he seeks the Justice League’s help ahead of the forthcoming vampire apocalypse — all with Green Arrow seemingly hot on his tail. After being hit by a car, Bennett is taken to the Hall of Justice’s infirmary, where he has a chat with Green Lantern and Zan (of the Wonder Twins).
Created by J.M. DeMatteis and Tom Sutton, the character of I, Vampire first appeared in 1981’s House of Mystery #290. The character later debuted in DC’s “Prime Earth” continuity in I, Vampire #1, which was published in 2011 as part of The New 52. Andrew Bennett has most recently been spotted within the pages of Justice League Dark, though DC has still used him rather sparingly over the years.
