Harley Quinn has had many love interests, but this Valentine’s Day, DC seemingly pairs Harley up with one the universe’s most powerful characters.
DC Comics is celebrating Valentine’s Day next week and giving Harley Quinn readers a surprising new couple.
Around the holidays, character anniversaries, summertime, day of love and more, the publisher puts out an an anthology one-shot collecting numerous stories featuring fan-favorites. This year’s Strange Love Adventures #1 will explore numerous heartfelt tales revolving around characters like Flash villain Gorilla Grodd, Sgt. Rock, Peacemaker and Harley Quinn. However, it appears Harley will be getting a new flame in the issue: Black Adam.
A preview for the one-shot teases that sparks will fly in the short story “Lightning in a Bottle,” written by Harley Quinn scribe Stephanie Phillips and drawn by Jon Sommariva. After spray-painting graffiti all over the Hall of Justice, Harley is apprehended by Shazam while Black Adam seemingly admires her from the sky. As Adam looks on the two, Harley’s inner dialogue states “that the best way to get over a broken heart is to fall in love again.” The story appears to take place prior to the Infinite Frontier era of DC, being that Harley is shown in her DC Rebirth attire and Shazam isn’t guarding the Four Riders of the Apocalypse from escaping their confinement.
If the power couple between Harley and Adam does occur in the upcoming issue, it will add on to both character’s complicated love lives and histories, as of late. Harley’s most prominent love interests have been the Joker and Poison Ivy (though they recently went their separate ways), but she has also been involved with characters like Booster Gold, Mason Macabre, Batman, Deadshot and even Lobo. Meanwhile, Adam has turned away from villainy and become a team player in Justice League, though it is also teased that he may kill the entire League in the near future.
In terms of DC’s main continuity, Harley and Black Adam also haven’t had much interaction with one another, though they have been on opposite sides in the Injustice universe, even facing off against one another. Whether there will be any hostility between the two in the main DC Universe remains to be seen. The preview and solicitation for Strange Love Adventures #1 can be found below.
