DC sets a new creative team for Batman in December, as writer Joshua Williamson and artist Jorge Molina continue the Dark Knight’s adventures.
Joshua Williamson and Jorge Molina are the new creative team on Batman, starting with December’s Issue #118.
The duo’s first storyline is entitled “Abyss” and features an all-new villain, designed by new series artist Jorge Molina.
We’re honoring the plan that the other books in the bat-line are doing while telling a brand-new story for Bruce Wayne as Batman in the DCU.

Williamson’s debut on the title features Batman traveling outside of Gotham City in the aftermath of this fall’s upcoming “Fear State” event, as revealed previously in DC’s November 2021 solicitations. Notably, Batman will also be donning a version of his older yellow oval Batsuit that he last wore during Grant Morrison’s first incarnation of Batman Inc. prior to DC’s New 52 reboot in 2011.
“More Batman news and info to come as we get closer to the end of Fear State and #118 in December,” Williamson tweeted. “AND I have other BIG announcements coming soon that aren’t ready YET… The end of 2021 and 2022 are going to be a very busy and wild ride.”
Penning Batman marks another notch in Williamson’s large body of DC work. The writer is also scripting Infinite Frontier, Robin and the upcoming Deathstroke Inc. book.
James Tynion IV, the previous writer on Batman and the architect behind “Fear State” and the previous major Batman Family event “Joker War,” announced in early August that he would be leaving DC to focus on Substack creator-owned work. Issue 117 will be his last.
Batman #118 goes on sale in December from DC.
