Comic writer Joshua Williamson says Green Arrow’s son Connor Hawke plays a major role in both his Robin series and the ongoing Infinite Frontier era.
Comic writer Joshua Williamson recently revealed that Green Arrow’s son Connor Hawke will play a big role in both his Robin series and the ongoing Infinite Frontier era at DC Comics moving forward.
“Connor Hawke is a major part of the Robin book for the tournament arc, and the tournament arc is long,” Williamson explained in a new interview with The Beat. “It’s not a short arc. The tournament itself doesn’t start until issue six.”
The writer added they have so much story to tell in regard to both Connor and Robin that the arc is expected to spread across two issues. “The editors were like, this is too packed,” Williamson recalled about turning in his initial drafts. “We all decided, let’s break it into two. I had to do some re-writing and some fixing, but for the most part, we didn’t want to rush it.”
The writer further teased that “Connor will be in the Robin book for a while,” explaining, “We are talking about where Connor will go next, and I can’t really go too deep into that right now without spoiling some things. But there are plans for where Connor will go after Robin.”
Fans will recall that Connor Hawke made his return to the DC Comics Universe earlier this year, when Williamson decided to make the character a foil to Robin in the Lazarus Tournament.
“Connor Hawke hasn’t been seen in the DC Universe in like 10 years, and I always liked that character,” Willamson told CBR back in April. “I was always bummed that [Connor] got shoved to the side. And so I started just asking, I was already asking about Ravager and other ones, but I really felt like I needed Connor. I was piecing all these things together with him and Damian, and at the same time, I was thinking about who were the people who would have these kinds of competitions.”
The official synopsis for Robin #4 reads,
Damian Wayne versus his grandfather, the immortal Ra’s al Ghul! For years, Batman’s son avoided learning the ways of the Demon from Ra’s, but now that training may be exactly what Robin needs to win the League of Lazarus tournament. Plus, Ravager follows the mysterious Respawn into the secrets of Lazarus Island!
Infinite Frontier serves as both a follow-up to the 2016 DC Rebirth relaunch and a relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic book titles. Infinite Frontier #1 launched on June 22 and is available now, while Robin #4 is due to hit shelves on July 27.
