DC Gives Green Lantern’s Costume a Small But Significant Change

[ad_1]

Preview material for DC’s Dark Crisis suggests that Hal Jordan/Green Lantern has traded his usual green boots for a new, white pair.

Hal Jordan looks to be back at it again with the white boots in DC’s Dark Crisis.

The Burbank-based publisher recently announced its latest DCU-wide “Crisis” event, revealing some cover artwork, as well as a number of unlettered preview pages. While Hal Jordan has most commonly been depicted as wearing white gloves and green boots with his Green Lantern Corps uniform, this promotional material for Dark Crisis instead sees him sporting white gloves with matching white boots.

Hal Jordan has been depicted as wearing white boots in the past, though not often — and not for a while. Even then, certain instances of the Silver-Age Green Lantern sporting colorless footwear could be attributed to non-canonical variant covers or good old-fashioned coloring errors. However, Hal’s feet are visible on the cover of Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1, the cover of Dark Crisis #1 and an interior splash page from the latter. He has white boots in all three illustrations, which would suggest that this is a deliberate design change, not an oversight. While this change seems like a fairly minor one, it has been enough to get fans talking on sites like Reddit.

Written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Daniel Sampere with colors by Alejandro Sánchez and letters by Tom Napolitano, the main Dark Crisis series is set to kick off in June and will consist of seven issues. Prior to this, DC will release two one-shot prelude titles: Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition on May 7 and the aforementioned Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 on May 31. Hal Jordan won’t be the only Green Lantern to feature in the event, of course, with the likes of John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Sojourner “Jo” Mullein also joining the fray.

“In the original Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, the homeworld of Pariah, along with the infinite Multiverse, was obliterated,” an official synopsis for Dark Crisis reads. “Now this mad sole survivor has found a way to bring his homeworld and the entire infinite Multiverse back from the dead: Earth-0 must die. An ancient destructive force called the Great Darkness, first appearing in Swamp Thing by Alan Moore and Stan Woch, is the weapon Pariah will wield as he paves a path to rebirth and vengeance. In DC’s next big event, Dark Crisis, the heroes left behind must come together to combat this great evil and save the lost Justice League, but what happens when not everyone agrees to join the fight?”

Written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Daniel Sampere with colors by Alejandro Sánchez and letters by Tom Napolitano, Dark Crisis #1 goes on sale in June 2022 from DC.
