DC Comics artist Robson Rocha has passed away, his fellow comic book artists confirm.
Acclaimed DC Comics artist Robson Rocha has died.
Fellow comic book artist Fabi Marques confirmed Rocha’s passing in a post to Twitter. “I’m really sorry to inform that we lost Robson,” she wrote. “One of the greatest artists of our generation. Rest in power.”
Artist Yıldıray Çınar was among the first to relay the news, adding, “So sorry to learn that Robson Rocha left us today,” Çınar wrote. “RIP Robson. So young and early… My condolences to his family, his loved ones and all his fans.”
News of Rocha’s passing comes less than two weeks after Marques put out a post explaining that Rocha had been hospitalized with COVID-19 and was in dire need of blood donations.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Rocha got his start in comics in 2010. For DC specifically, he worked on such New 52 titles as Birds of Prey, Superboy, Batman/Superman, Lobo and Earth 2: World’s End.
Rocha signed an exclusive deal with DC in 2016. “I’ve been a fan of comic books since I was a child,” he said at the time. “To have the opportunity to work with the DC characters I admire and love so much is a dream come true. These heroes have helped me believe in a better and much more fantastic world. I hope that my contributions to these characters will help to inspire others.”
Rocha became a breakout star during DC’s Rebirth era thanks to his work on Green Lanterns, though is perhaps best known for his work on Aquaman. His other DC credits include Justice League, Supergirl, Demon Knights, World’s Finest and Teen Titans, among others.
