DC has some of the most powerful villains in comics. This makes sense as the heroes of the DC Universe are often pretty high on the power spectrum. These villains all act in a lot of different ways and some of them go the same route as heroes, hiding their identities behind masks and code names that don’t always let on how dangerous they really are.
However, there are some villains who don’t even try to hide who they are. They are loud and proud about it, proclaiming their identity for all to know. To them, it doesn’t matter if the heroes and general public know who they are- that’s half the fun.
10 Gorilla Grodd Has Never Hid Who He Is
Gorilla Grodd is one of the most vicious apes in the DC Universe and one of the Flash’s deadliest foes. Hailing from Gorilla City, most of Grodd’s schemes involve taking over the city and using its advanced technology to try to conquer the human world. His monstrous strength and titanic telepathic abilities have made him a danger to any foe he faces.
Gorilla Grodd has no reason to hide his identity- his drive for conquest and adulation means he wants everyone to know who he is. He has no family to protect or anything like that. As would be king of Gorilla City, he wants the world to know the name Grodd.
9 Sinestro Wants The Universe To Fear Him
It’s easy to believe the name Sinestro is a code name but it isn’t. The Korugaran who was once the greatest Green Lantern of them all and the future founder of the Sinestro Corps’ full name is Thaal Sinestro. The fact that his last name sounded so much like the word “sinister” should have told the Guardians of the Universe something but it didn’t.
Sinestro has never tried to hide his identity. His ideology of order through fear means that he wants everyone to know exactly who he is- what would be the point otherwise? Sinestro wants people to fear him, not some made-up identity.
8 Talia al Ghul Was Raised To Be Proud Of Who She Is
Talia al Ghul is one of the most dangerous women on the planet. It’s not merely because she has the power of the League of Shadows behind her, although that certainly helps, but because she was trained from a young age to be the best at everything. Talia is strong, skilled, and smart and her cunning has earned her the respect of everyone she faces.
Talia has never felt the need to hide who she is. She’s an al Ghul, which makes her one of the greatest people on the planet in her eyes. She has no reason to hide behind a secret identity unless it’s part of a scheme. In the end, Talia is Talia.
7 Ra’s al Ghul Was His Daughter’s Role Model In Many Ways
Talia al Ghul learned many lessons from her father, Ra’s al Ghul. As one of the most dangerous immortals on the planet, al Ghul doesn’t exactly advertise who he is but he doesn’t really hide it either. There are times when he masquerades as someone else but in the end, he’s always Ra’s al Ghul and reveals himself to those he deems worthy of the truth.
Ra’s al Ghul is one of the most dangerous men on the Earth and his years have taught him that a fierce reputation often does most of the work one needs to get done. While he prefers to manipulate events from the shadows, it would be beneath him to hide who he is.
6 Vandal Savage Has Terrorized The Earth For Millennia
Secret identities are usually used by someone with something to hide and when it comes right down to it, Vandal Savage has nothing to hide. Any family he cared about has been dead for millennia. He has so many places to hide and such vast resources that hunting him down is an exercise in futility- he can stay one step ahead of anyone.
Vandal Savage doesn’t mind if his foes know who he is. In fact, he relishes his infamy, loving every second of it. One doesn’t spend millennia sowing fear and pain throughout the world to hide their identity, after all.
5 T.O. Morrow Is Actually His Name
The Silver Age was a different time, so an evil scientist could be named T.O. Morrow and no one would really think very much about it. Born Thomas Oscar Morrow, he used his genius to become one of the top robotic scientists in the world, creating both Amazo, which can copy the powers of any hero it encounters, and Red Tornado, who would break his programming, join the Justice League, and get possessed by the Wind Elemental.
Honestly, ol’ T.O.’s parents almost certainly had some kind of sense of humor when giving him his name and it worked out for him pretty well in his future career.
4 General Zod Is Proud Of Who He Is
General Zod is the kind of person who even when he commits terrible crimes, he doesn’t at all care if everyone knows he is. In fact, Zod tried to overthrow the government of Krypton and he didn’t do it in a quiet manner- everyone knew he was behind it and that’s why he got thrown in the Phantom Zone. When he was released, he also saw no reason to hide his identity- he wanted everyone to know who he was.
Quickly becoming one of Superman’s greatest rivals, General Zod set out to secure a new home for his people and wasn’t too picky about how he got one or who knew who he was- this is a guy who often told people to kneel before Zod.
3 Everyone Knows Who Two-Face Is
Two-Face may use a code name but his identity isn’t exactly a secret. It would be pretty impossible for anyone to not know he was Harvey Dent and while he doesn’t think of himself as Harvey Dent anymore, he doesn’t exactly keep his past life a secret. He just feels more comfortable calling himself Two-Face.
He does struggle with that identity, though. Sometimes Harvey even takes control for a time but Two-Face always comes roaring back. However, if someone walked up to him on the street and asked if he was Harvey Dent, he wouldn’t deny it. He’d flip a coin to see if he would let them live but he’d totally tell them.
2 Darkseid Has No Reason To Have A Secret Identity
Darkseid is the God of Evil and he has no reason to hide who he is. Darkseid desires a universe where all bow to him; pretending he was something else would be futile. Like most villains, he has used alternate identities to trick people but he never keeps up the charade for very long. Darkseid is and all will tremble at his coming.
Darkseid, unless it’s part of a scheme, has nothing to hide. He wants those he attacks to know who is attacking them, wants them to feel the fear of Darkseid, the despair that knowing the God of Evil has turned his gaze on them.
1 Lex Luthor Is Too Arrogant To Hide Behind Masks
Lex Luthor is an interesting case when it comes to supervillains. He’s one of the richest people on the planet and owner of one of the biggest corporations in the world but he still goes out and tries to kill Superman and any other heroes he feels like killing all while using his government name. It’s the height of arrogance.
Even weirder is that every time he gets caught, he just gets out of it. Whether it’s because of his money or some other reason, Lex Luthor always comes out of this schemes smelling like roses. He’s even been president of the United States. He’s the ultimate Teflon man.
