Being a hero is no easy task. On a daily basis, heroes must fight tirelessly to save the lives of other people and defeat their evil enemies. Heroes must also be prepared to sacrifice everything, including their lives. With responsibilities this big, one could not help but imagine all heroes as being perfect. Unfortunately, nobody is perfect, and this applies to them as well.
The heroes of the DC Universe have all made their fair share of mistakes. These mistakes have been the products of momentary weakness and misguided judgment, among other things. Some have affected merely a few people, while some have led to potentially world-ending events. Either way, DC sure knows how to make good stories out of these heroes’ missteps.
10 The Flash Has Messed With Time
After gaining his Speed Force powers after an accident in his lab, Barry Allen decided to dedicate the rest of his life to being a hero. As The Flash, he has accomplished a tremendous amount of good deeds, but his list of misdeeds is quite lengthy as well. His most famous blunder is that of creating the Flashpoint world. By going back in time to prevent the death of his mother, Barry completely changed the universe. This new world had fewer heroes, which allowed for more chaos, especially because of how Atlantis and the Amazons were at war with each other. It’s safe to say that Barry didn’t exactly think this one through.
9 Aquaman Wasn’t Always So Brave And Responsible
In addition to having all the responsibilities a member of the Justice League already would, Arthur Curry was also born to be the ruler of Atlantis. This means he also has the weight of all of Atlantis on his shoulders as well. At one point in his life, this proved too much for him to handle, so he turned down the throne. Unknowingly, this would lead to his mentor, Vulko, orchestrating a war between Atlantis and the surface world. The attacks led to the destruction of cities and the deaths of many people.
Aquaman is also responsible for the creation of his archenemy, Black Manta, who has also murdered many people on Earth. Even if he never intended to do so, Arthur has made the world a worse place.
8 Hal Jordan Has Embraced Fear
Hal Jordan is the epitome of what it means to be a Green Lantern He has displayed his extraordinary willpower through his many heroic acts and has defeated great evils, such as Nekron and Volthoom, saving countless lives. Like anyone, however, he has certainly had his moments of weakness, albeit far more drastic ones.
After seeing his beloved home of Coast City destroyed, Hal goes on a power-seeking rampage, killing some of his fellow Green Lanterns in the process. He then merges with Parallax, the cosmic entity of fear, who uses his influence to make Jordan one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe for a time.
7 Pandora Once Unleashed Evil
DC’s version of Pandora has similar origins to that of the woman in the original ancient Greek myth. She resided in Greece, where she eventually found a box in the shape of a skull. She opened the box, unknowingly releasing the Seven Deadly Sins into the world. These beings gained significant power over the world, influencing people to act in evil manners while also causing destruction on their own. Though she has redeemed herself in a sense, the rise of evil in the world will always be at least partially attributed to her and her actions.
6 Wally West Has Made Some Horrible Mistakes
From the beginning of his transition from being Kid Flash to now being the main Flash, Wally West has shown he has what it takes to be a true hero. Barry Allen clearly taught him well, however, one can’t really be taught how to deal with emotional stress and trauma. This is something that people have to learn to control on their own. Unfortunately, Wally was overcome with a wave of emotions while at Sanctuary, a place meant to help keep heroes at ease.
He let out a massive amount of Speed Force Energy, killing a number of heroes in the process. Ashamed of himself, he then tried to make it look like he wasn’t the culprit by killing himself too. While he has surely become a better person since this incident, it is plain to see that his sense of judgment was not always on par with where a hero should be.
5 Red Hood Is Not Like Batman
Jason Todd has always preferred to deal with criminals in brutal and efficient fashion. Even though he was brought up by Batman, one of the greatest and most honorable heroes of all time, he always felt that being Robin and arresting criminals wasn’t enough. He put serious beatdowns on any criminal he came across and even pushed one off a roof. Unfortunately, Jason only continued to grow more violent after his own death and resurrection. As The Red Hood, he started killing off Gotham’s criminals en masse and has even had his fair share of conflicts with the Bat Family, and he never pulled any punches on them.
4 John Constantine Has Always Been Selfish
John Constantine is definitely one of the most powerful and effective magic users in the DC Universe. If anyone has any problems of the magical sense, he’s at the top of the list of who to call for help. However, he has his own list, one of his own issues. Being quite the stubborn, selfish, and deceitful magician that he is, he likes to employ many reckless methods when saving the day.
For example, he once transferred a curse that he had on himself to an entire city full of people but luckily, everything worked out. He also once forced his friend, Deadman, into staying in the body of the Sea King, because he said he’d be more useful that way. On a selfish note, he even once caused multiple inmates to kill each other so he could go get a cigarette. Not exactly the ideal image for a hero.
3 Wonder Woman Loves Conflict
Wonder Woman is a valiant warrior for truth and justice. She has bravely defended the world on many occasions, including when Darkseid invaded and when The Batman Who Laughs tried to destroy reality. She is not without her flaws though and is responsible for the creation of her archenemy, Cheetah. This villainess has killed many people and inflicted pain on many more. In the Flashpoint universe, Wonder Woman was a ruthless warmonger. She led her people in the war against the Atlanteans, in which she and her people conquer the UK and spread violence and chaos throughout the world.
2 Superman Has Done Some Questionable Things
Being the personification of hope and heroism is no small thing. One would have to always be brave and be ready to sacrifice their life for the greater good at any moment. Surely someone like this couldn’t be guilty of committing horrible acts? Fans who ask this question clearly haven’t seen much of Superman’s history. He actually once adopted Jimmy Olsen. Adoption is usually a good thing, but Superman decided to verbally abuse him for the entire duration of Jimmy’s adoption. Crazily, he also drugs a college football player just so he can take his place on the field. And of course, in the Injustice universe, he is guilty of committing an atrocious amount of murders, including the murder of Lois Lane.
1 Batman Isn’t Perfect
Batman has been dedicated to fighting injustice and evil ever since he witnessed the murder of his parents. His war on crime has been a long and storied one, full of victories for him. Unfortunately, he too has had a significant number of missteps in his career. One of the most notable situations was in Dark Knights: Metal, where he went to investigate a tomb by himself, which allowed the forces of the Dark Multiverse to invade the Earth. Batman has also been responsible for the death of a teenager, Jason Todd. Batman took him in as Robin, even though he knew he wasn’t ready for the role. This led to the Joker killing the young vigilante, which would eventually lead to even more violence in Gotham.
