Nintendo has been eager to emphasize that version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the first and only ‘major’ update to the game. We had various small updates previously of course, adding new events, items and themes, but today’s arrival was far more substantial. In addition to new characters, locations and features, it seems to have added a lot of items.

Datamining results shared on animalcrossingworld.com suggest the number of new items could be as high as 9000+. That’s crazy, but the number is currently being reviewed and debated, as it also depends on whether you count clones and new colour variations of existing items. In terms of items that are fully brand new, it could be more in the region of 1000+.

Whatever your criteria – whether you count new colour variations / skins or not – it’s a huge number of new items. That’s very welcome for long-established players eager to discover new furniture, clothes etc. The extra storage on offer from residential services sure becomes more tempting, too.

Of course, don’t scroll down that Animal Crossing World source link if you want to avoid spoilers.

Basically, there’s a lot to discover in the game once you upgrade it to version 2.0.

Let us know if you’ve been exploring the update today – what’s been your favourite find?
