Dark Souls 3’s recent FPS Boost on Xbox Series X|S finally puts the 2016 action RPG’s frame rate on par with the PlayStation 5 version.
Dark Souls 3 players on Xbox Series X|S will now be able to experience the action RPG closer to its performance on PlayStation 5, as the nearly five-year-old game recently received an FPS Boost.
As tweeted out by the official Xbox Twitter account, Dark Souls 3 is the latest title in Xbox Backward Compatible Games Library to receive an FPS Boost up to a targeted 60 frames-per-second. Though both Xbox Series X and S remain at a 900p resolution while the game runs at a locked 1080p 60FPS on PlayStation 5, inconsistent frame rates and juddering should be smoothed out for players on Microsoft’s latest console.
The game previously ran at 30FPS on Xbox One, with developer FromSoftware having updated the PlayStation 4 Pro version to 60 while neglecting a similar enhancement on Xbox consoles until now. The Twitter account advised players to restart their consoles after the update to “get the most out of FPS boost on Dark Souls 3.”
Dark Souls 3 was originally released by FromSoftware in 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC as the fourth installment to the Japanese developer’s action RPG series, proceeding Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. The series has become known for its brutal difficulty, with its success leading FromSoftware to develop more “souls-like” games such as Bloodborne and Sekrio: Shadows Die Twice. Reports have also recently surfaced about Square Enix teaming up with Ninja Gaiden and Nioh developer Team Ninja to bring a ‘Dark Souls-like’ Final Fantasy to PlayStation 5.
FromSoftare’s latest game, Elden Ring, was recently showcased at Summer Games Fest 2021. Featuring a more expansive map and a world constructed by George R.R. Martin, author of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, the game is set to be the biggest project undertaken by FromSoftware to date. It is scheduled to launch on Jan. 21.
