CBR has an exclusive reveal of pin-up art for EXO and Fury, part of Dark Horse Comics’ acquisition of Roye Okupe’s YouNeek African line of comics.
In celebration of Dark Horse Comics launching Roye Okupe’s YouNeek line of African comics, the publisher is debuting new art featuring the franchise’ E.X.O. and Fury.
CBR can exclusively debut pin-ups for E.X.O. and Fury, along with preview pages from the upcoming graphic novel E.X.O., which arrives on Oct. 9. Adewale “Wale” Williams stars as EXO, a hero who dons an Endogenic Xoskeletal Ordnance suit to fight crime. The costume provides EXO with super strength, agility, endurance, and flight. He can also generate and manipulate force fields. As for Fury, the sometimes friend/foe wears Fury Gear that allows her to move at incredible speeds in short bursts. Whereas EXO has a computer science background, Fury is a brilliant engineer, along with being a martial artist and strategist.
YouNeek is a 10-book program that originally began as a crowdfunded, self-publishing Kickstarter line from founder Roye Okupe. Dark Horse is teaming with YouNeek Studios to bring the graphic novels of African superhero stories to a larger audience. “YouNeek YouNiverse is a massive, interconnected universe of sci-fi, fantasy and superhero content spread across multiple timelines with stories told from an African perspective,” Okupe said.
“YouNeek Studios is unlike anything in American comics today,” said Dark Horse CEO Mike Richardson. “I hope to see the YouNeek acquisition prove to comics that there is absolutely a market for these stories, told by creative teams that have the knowledge to tell them right, and I see more publishers picking up books like these in the future.”
Malika: Warrior Queen, written by Roye Okupe, illustrated by Chima Kalu and Sunkanmi Akinboye and colored by Raphael Kazeem, Etubi Onucheyo and Toyin Ajetunmobi goes on sale Sept. 7. from Dark Horse Comics.
