Daredevil, Punisher, Iron Fist, Luke Cage & Jessica Jones Leaving Netflix
All six of the Netflix Marvel “Defenders” series series shows will be heading back under Marvel’s control at the end of this month. A notification has been added to each of the series (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Punisher, and Defenders) saying that they will be leaving the streaming service as of March 1st. Sources confirmed to Deadline that Netflix’s rights to the series are ending and reverting back to Disney.
For their part, Disney hasn’t said what their plans are and if the series will end up on Disney+ or because of the more adult content, they might end up on Hulu. The shows were made back when Marvel Television existed separately from the movie side and at times they would fight over characters and how they were used. But Marvel Television is now defunct and the majority of the shows that were in production were either quietly finished or cancelled outright.
Two of the characters from these shows made their way into the MCU recently with Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as Wilson Fisk in the Hawkeye series while Charlie Cox showed up as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home the same week. After their appearances, the Daredevil series climbed back up into the top 10 of streaming as fans re-engaged with the show. Exactly what Disney’s plans are and what they may do with other actors/characters from the series remains to be seen.
