Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Brings Mr. Bean to Night City

Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean enters a whole new world thanks to a mod that places him in the game world of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.

An inventive mod to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 sees the addition of a new and unexpected character to Night City in the form of Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean.

Using a series of game mods and footage from the Mr. Bean TV series and movie, the short video posted to YouTube shows Mr. Bean in a variety of Night City locations and set pieces. From action scenes to dancing in the clubs, Bean is seamlessly integrated into the dystopian future of the game and even gets told to “Wake the f– up, Samurai,” by Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand. The modder behind the video is no stranger to putting live-action characters into video games as other videos on his channel include Walter White in Half-Life and Austin Powers in Mass Effect.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched in September 2020 and was affected by a number of serious bugs and stability issues that rendered the game practically unplayable on some systems, particularly older consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PlayStation version was especially affected and the issues led to Sony withdrawing the game from the PlayStation Store and offering anyone who purchased it full refunds, only offering it for sale again over six months later.

Although the initial problems with the game have been resolved, Polish developers CD Projekt Red are still dealing with the fallout of the disastrous launch. In December 2021, the developers announced that they were entering into negotiations to settle a class-action lawsuit that was filed on behalf of investors in the company. The statement from CD Projekt Red also stated “It should also be noted that entering into negotiations concerning a potential settlement should in no way be construed as acceptance by [CD Projekt Red] or members of its Management Board of any allegations expressed in the plaintiffs’ court filings.”

The developers still have hope that history will be kind to Cyberpunk 2077 and that the game will be remembered for its strengths and not its difficult launch. “We’re proud of many aspects of the game, but as we know, not everything went our way. Nevertheless, the brand awareness of Cyberpunk that we’ve managed to build is huge, and the game universe, its characters and details have fans all over the world,” said CD Projekt Red president and co-CEO Adam Kiciński. “We believe that in the long run Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game, and like our other titles, it will sell for years — especially as the hardware gets more powerful over time and we improve the game.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC. An enhanced version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is scheduled for release sometime in 2022.
