Cobra Kai Just Set the Stage for a Spider-Man Crossover

[ad_1]

It’s no secret Spider-Man star, Andrew Garfield, is a fan of Cobra Kai and Season 4 just paved the way for his Spider-Man to crossover.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 4 of Cobra Kai, streaming now on Netflix.

It’s no secret Spider-Man star, Andrew Garfield, is a fan of Cobra Kai. He’s been quite vocal about it, even geeking out when the cast paid him tribute. It’s led to wishful thinking that maybe he could appear someday in the series and come Season 4, the opening for Spidey to crossover may have finally been created, thanks to an unlikely source.

Let’s be honest, if Cobra Kai’s able to land him, it’d add major cred to the series and bring a lot of traction as he’s such a Hollywood A-lister. Given that Sony Pictures Television produces Cobra Kai and Sony’s also responsible for Garfield as the wall-crawler, it’s a match made in heaven, but we can all admit it’s not often such a big name just cameos in a Netflix series that has a cult following.

Carrie Underwood appeared as herself on Cobra Kai

This can happen, though, based on how the All-Valley Karate Tournament board is now operating. In their appearances this season, they were all about branding, making the competition more diverse and marketable. They added in a women’s title and had a weapons exhibition, but the big shocker came when the head, Ron, came good on his promise to deliver a celebrity.

Superstar, Carrie Underwood stunned fans by appearing as herself and singing Survivor’s 1984 hit “The Moment of Truth,” from the original movie’s soundtrack, just in time to give the kids a bit of encouragement before their brawls. Ron silenced all doubters and proved he truly had clout in the entertainment industry. Thus, come the next edition, Ron’s connections can pave the way for Garfield to appear as himself.

The show’s creatives have joked about him being a tech mogul, akin to his role in The Social Network, or maybe even buying up car lots and putting Daniel out of business. But these are long-term characters who’d need fleshing out. Instead, they can get meta and have Garfield giving an inspirational speech. We can see him donning the Spider-Man suit to maybe show off some acrobatics he learned on set, while reminding the fighters “with great power, comes great responsibility.”

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man

The series could also have Garfield appear as a sponsor or someone interested in working with the board. We can see him attempting to hijack Ron’s position, take over the franchise for himself, or just pop in as an in-show fan. Still, the web-head appearing as himself just feels like the more fun option, especially as Spider-Man: No Way Home is killing it with critics and at the box office. So much so, it has fans wanting more of Garfield in the Spider-Verse Marc Webb created.

This allows Sony to capitalize on two highly-popular properties, connecting with millennials and old-school nostalgic Karate Kid boomers. And ultimately, it’d be impressive cross-promotion, and prove Sony does have a light side by granting Garfield a dream-come-true stint on his favorite series at the moment.

Cobra Kai’s four seasons are available to stream now on Netflix.
