Chris Pratt shares a crude, humorous edit that adds Super Mario Bros. elements to the climax of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy.

Following news that he will star as the lead character in Nintendo and Illumination’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie, Chris Pratt has shared a crude, albeit hilarious edit that puts a Mario-themed spin on the climax of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The video in question was originally uploaded to YouTube by user PFINNEY under the title Invincibility Star-Lord. Pratt subsequently shared the video to his Instagram, with the caption, “Amazing first look at Super Mario Brothers. This is going to be epic.”

In the edit, Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord, who is sporting Mario’s hat and mustache, tries to grab a Super Star — not an Infinity Stone — before it can fall into the hands of Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). Also present in the video are Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who is wearing Toad’s mushroom “hat,” and Peter’s late mother Meredith Quill (Laura Haddock), who is wearing Princess Peach’s crown.

While the cast of the new Super Mario Bros. movie has certainly divided the internet, fans have also had a bit of fun following the announcement of who will voice some of Nintendo’s most beloved characters in the project. For example, with the news that Charlie Day will be starring opposite Pratt as the voice of Luigi, numerous fan animations in which Luigi recreates Day’s iconic “Pepe Silvia” bit from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have made their way online.

In addition to Pratt and Day as the voices of Mario and Luigi, respectively, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Moreover, longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will feature in undisclosed cameo roles. In addition to Mario himself, Martinet has lent his voice to such characters as Luigi, Wario and Waluigi in Nintendo’s video games over the years.

Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the new Super Mario Bros. movie alongside Illumination CEO Christopher Meledandri. The film is slated to premiere in North America during the Holiday 2022 season, with release dates for other markets to be announced at a later date.

Nintendo and Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. animated film releases in theaters in North America on Dec. 21, 2022.
