There are many aspects of Netflix’s Castlevania series that are exceptional, and they all come together to make an enthralling experience for viewers. An especially impressive aspect of Castlevania is how well the characters themselves are pieced together and presented throughout the series.
In fact, almost every character has their own set of likable qualities in Castlevania. Even the supposed villains of the show have garnered support and popularity with at least one redeeming feature, despite being portrayed as evil, manipulative, or cowardly. However, there are a number of characters who can be considered more likable and popular than others.
10 Dracula’s Character Was So Complex That He Was Both Despicable & Likable
The story of Castlevania is bizarre in the sense that it blurs the lines of good and bad. While certain members of the Church and Carmilla are seen as undisputed villains, Dracula isn’t seen as a total villain, despite instigating the war that rages on for the entirety of the series.
He was a complex character with evil intentions that were simply fueled by the unjust killing of his one true love, as he was willing to peacefully integrate into human society prior to that event. This generates a certain level of sympathy that villains often don’t deserve.
9 Lenore Was Likable Despite Her Treachery & Deceit
The Council of Sisters were arguably the main villains of Castlevania, especially for those sympathetic toward Dracula. With Carmilla as the main instigator of all their scheming and violent solutions, it is somewhat surprising to consider any one of them as being even remotely likable.
As the diplomat of the group, Lenore was tasked with making sure that Hector would cooperate with them, which she did by feigning friendship and affection toward him before turning him into a slave of sorts. Although it was all a trick, she did actually come to like Hector, which made things complicated considering how everything would end. Ultimately, she would be remembered as one of the more likable and reasonable vampiric monsters.
8 Hector Was Used & Abused But Ultimately Got His Peaceful Resolution
It’s implied and mentioned on multiple occasions that Hector likes to torture animals, but it always feels secondary to Hector’s true nature of wanting purpose and direction. Despite being kept around to supply the vampires with night creatures, he tries his best to offer fair counsel to Dracula, before he is easily manipulated by Carmilla and later Lenore.
His tendency to be taken advantage of in his quest to find a sense of belonging is arguably why many fans don’t hold him in the highest of regards. His peaceful ending paints him in a different light now that he is finally free to act as he pleases.
7 Isaac Goes From Being A Slave To Eventually Finding Peace & Joy In Life
Isaac goes from being Dracula’s lackey in the second season to having his own character arc and being cemented as one of the main characters and major players in the events that unfold. Isaac’s loyalty to Dracula plants the early seeds of Isaac being a likable person despite his supposed villainous duties.
His hatred for the human race pushes him to go on a journey to eventually realize that life is worth living instead of struggling through. At the end of the series, Isaac has found peace and is totally done with fighting and revenge.
6 Alucard Was Not As Likable As Trevor & Sypha
As part of the heroic trio who would go on to stop Dracula and his resurrection, Alucard’s duty to do what his mother would want ultimately drove him to kill his father. Being part-vampire, Alucard’s personality was somewhat difficult to understand, especially when his fears and desires were all over the place.
Still, his friendships with Trevor and Sypha were loved and enjoyed by the fans, from the teasing between Alucard and Trevor to the genuine comradery that the trio exhibited. With Alucard finally finding peace and a new community to end his former loneliness, fans were left feeling happy for him.
5 The Pure Heart Of Lisa Tepes Caused Dracula To Both Live Among Humans & Wage War Against Them
Lisa Tepes isn’t heavily involved in Castlevania, but she is the reason why all the events transpire as they do. After all, her death sparks Dracula’s vengeance and the ensuing war between mankind and monsters.
Lisa’s initial meeting with Dracula should have been an intense and terrifying experience for her, but her enthusiasm and love for science and technology instantly replaced any fear. Her kindness greatly impacted Dracula and allowed the vampire to see a human in a different way than he ever had before.
4 The Sea Captain Managed To Get Past Isaac’s Immense Hatred For Humanity
Isaac’s character arc is one of the most interesting parts of Castlevania, as he goes from oppression to finding peace in life. During his vengeful phase, at the height of his cynicism and hatred for humans, he meets a curious Sea Captain.
His first thought is to kill the Captain and take his ship, but the Captain stands up to him and insists on being spared, offering up his crew as payment along with some exciting stories. Isaac warms to the Captain despite his general hatred of humans, and this is a testament to the Captain’s character.
3 Saint Germain’s Charisma Could Make Fans Root For Him Even During His Schemes
Before the events of the final season, Saint Germain could certainly be classed as a good guy, despite his initial role as a wild card. Despite his selfish motives, he still helps Sypha and Trevor get to the bottom of the mysteries surrounding Lindenfeld. From his witty humor and curiosity to the excellent voice acting by Bill Nighy, it is impossible to not like Saint Germain.
In the final series, however, Saint Germain returns and works with vampires in a bid to restore Dracula to the realm of the living, once again due to his own selfish desires. His ultimate sacrifice to help Trevor leaves his popularity and likability somewhat untarnished.
2 Trevor Became A Fan-Favorite When He Chose To Uphold His Family Legacy
Despite his often moody and pessimistic traits, Trevor Belmont is widely regarded as one of if not the most popular and likable character of Netflix’s Castlevania.
He is the cool protagonist who may not get along well with everybody, but he’s endured quite a character arc. From a lone drunk running from problems to a motivated fighter living up to the standards that his family legacy left for him, Trevor is the ultimate main character. If that isn’t enough, his dry humor also adds to the whole package during scenes that don’t necessarily involve fighting.
1 Sypha’s Drive, Passion, & Kind Heart Were Crucial In Their Ultimate Success
As the Netflix series of Castlevania progresses, Sypha becomes part of a package deal with Trevor. However, this does not mean that Sypha fades into the background.
Being in her company benefits Trevor greatly and brings the best out of him. Having a magic user in the battle sequences also makes for some thrilling exchanges. Sypha never truly loses her pure heart and sense of adventure, despite the many horrors that they have to endure along the way.
