Captain Carter Showcases a Super Soldier’s Deadly Power

[ad_1]

What If…? reveals just how deadly a super soldier can be by featuring Captain Carter as a fast, efficient and brutal brawler in battle.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for What If…? Season 1, Episode 1, “What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger,” streaming now on Disney+.

Captain Carter is the chief character of What If…?s first episode, “What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger,” as a version of Peggy, who became a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers. She quickly establishes herself as a brutal fighter that might even be more impressive in battle than any other super soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Super-Soldier Serum transforms plenty of people into dangerous fighters. But Captain Carter from What If…? is proof of just how brutal someone with proper training and little restraint can be when engaged in a fight.

The MCU has already been delving into the inherent danger of super soldiers. While Steve Rogers proved to have a strong moral center and a good amount of restraint in regards to how far he takes his abilities in fights, others were often deadly. Bucky Barnes became a ruthless legend in the black ops world as the Winter Soldier, killing numerous people across decades of forced service by HYDRA. John Walker in Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrestled with his inherent rage and ended up using his abilities to murder someone in full sight of the public. Each of them helped prove just how deadly a super soldier can be.

But almost none of that compares to the casually impressive and seemingly deadly skills of Captain Carter. In this reality, Peggy Carter was exposed to the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers. Thanks in part to her training as an intelligence officer who’s been taught to fight and kill more efficiently than Steve in basic training, she quickly proves to be a confident fighter on the battlefield. When Peggy is engaged in combat, she moves quickly with a brutal edge — taking down each soldier with a hard hit that they easily pick themselves up from.

When she faces a massive German soldier, she quickly targets his knee and beats him down — giving her a harsh victory. Captain Carter is a competent brawler, fighting entire squadrons with her bare hands. She even deploys the kind of hard kicks into stone walls that killed Battlestar in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all while dodging and reflecting gunfire with impressive speed. Considering she’s fighting in a war against Nazi soldiers who will otherwise kill her, her tactics are completely understandable as necessary evils.

But it’s still a strong reminder of just how dangerous a super soldier can really be when they take their abilities and training to the max. Peggy Carter can move with a shocking speed, knows where to land her punches to make them hurt as much as possible and has the deliberate and ruthless eye of a trained spy over a more straightforward soldier. Any other soldier who confronts her quickly goes down. As such, Captain Carter gets the chance to showcase the sheer potential of a properly trained super soldier, and just how many bodies it would leave behind.

Glimpse Captain Carter’s staggering power in the first episode of What If…?, now available on Disney+, with new episodes debuting on Wednesdays.
