Cable’s War-Wagon Has More Firepower Than the Batmobile

Cable #11 unveiled the War Wagon, a dangerous vehicle with a surprising history that suits the time-traveling Nathan Summers perfectly.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Cable #11, by Gerry Duggan, Phil Noto and VC’s Joe Sabino, on sale now.

Cable is one of the most resourceful mutants, possessing many different weapons and gadgets in his arsenal. As a soldier from the future, Nathan Summers has to be ready for practically any scenario that comes his way. Recently, Cable unveiled his very own, very dangerous means of transportation: the War Wagon.

The War Wagon makes its debut in Cable #11, right after the old Cable is resurrected. At this point, “Kid Cable” and his older counterpart began to gear up so they can take the fight to Stryfe, Cable’s evil clone. The old Cable chooses to ride a small but efficient ship, but his younger counterpart has other ideas. A much larger vehicle lies under a sheet, which Kid Cable says he’s going to borrow from old Cable.

Later on, Kid Cable is seen riding the War Wagon, a machine that is armed to the teeth. There is a giant turret underneath the War Wagon, not to mention several cannons and guns mounted all around the ship. Clearly, the War Wagon lives up to its name, essentially acting as a futuristic tank. Domino is surprised that old Cable let his younger counterpart take the War Wagon, but Kid Cable reminds her that it’s his War Wagon too.

This point serves as a reminder of the War Wagon’s incredible history. An entire page is dedicated to the War Wagon’s history, detailing several untold tales from Cable’s time-traveling adventures. In 1992, for instance, the War Wagon was created. This point is particularly interesting because this was right around the time Cable’s adventures with the original X-Force were being published.

The War Wagon’s history says a lot about Cable himself since its chronological appearances don’t exactly follow a linear timeline. The War Wagon’s next appearance is in the present day, where both Cables are working against Stryfe. It’s unclear what happens next since an adventure from 2023 is redacted from this list of War Wagon deployments.

Of course, the next time the War Wagon is deployed, it’s way back in 1918 during racing catastrophe in Tunguska. The War Wagon also interacts with several important parts of the Marvel Universe, such as the Time Variance Authority in 2901.

Going back to 1978, Cable uses the War Wagon against Stryfe again. The War Wagon is also deployed in the year 2099, using a new AI from the Mojoverse. In this way, two important aspects of the Marvel Universe collide, showing how Cable’s history jumps around all points in space and time.

The most entertaining mention of the War Wagon, however, has to be its last recorded use in 2015, where the “Secret War Wagons” are deployed by Deadpool. Overall, even though these tales are all untold, it would be interesting to eventually see how each of these War Wagon adventures unfold.

Overall, it makes a lot of sense that Cable would use a vehicle like the War Wagon. Cable, at his core, is a soldier, so he would naturally ride around in a giant tank that is armed to the teeth. As a time-traveler, it’s clear that no matter which time period he’s in, Cable can always make great use of the War Wagon.

The War Wagon also seems particularly useful against Stryfe, since it’s gone up against him in both 2021 and 1978. Right now, as both Cables gather their friends and family against Stryfe, it seems that the War Wagon will be particularly useful.

With such a looming threat on the horizon, it makes sense that both Cables will need all of the weapons at their disposal. Going forward, as Cable continues his never-ending war, the War Wagon will provide a fitting mode of transportation for the time-traveling mutant soldier.
