Buffy the Vampire Slayer Introduces a New Chosen One

BOOM! Studios announces The Vampire Slayer, a new Buffy spinoff comic by Sarah Gailey and Irene Flores that stars a “surprising new Slayer.”

BOOM! Studios has officially announced The Vampire Slayer, a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff comic that promises a “brand-new era for the Chosen One,” seemingly passing the the mantle to a new vampire hunter as Buffy Summers succumbs to burnout.

Set to launch this April, The Vampire Slayer comes from writer Sarah Gailey (Eat The Rich, Magic for Liars) and artist Irene Flores (Just Beyond). Issue #1 features main cover art by Goñi Montes, as well as variant cover art by Francesco Francavilla, Bex Glendining, Christian Ward and Mike del Mundo. “After the events of the past few years, fighting against the forces of evil nonstop, Buffy Summers finds herself succumbing to the burden of bearing the Slayer mantle,” an official synopsis for The Vampire Slayer reads.

“To help his Slayer, Rupert Giles risks turning to chaos magic, and with Willow’s help, they attempt a spell to remove the trauma from Buffy’s psyche,” it continues. “But the effects backfire and leave Buffy unable to remember her past or her purpose! With Sunnydale under attack, a surprising new Slayer must rise to protect the world, while Buffy’s friends race against the clock to restore her true self before it’s too late.”

“I am thrilled and honored to be writing stories in the universe of Buffy the Vampire Slayer!” said Gailey. “This iconic property helped to draw me and many of my peers and colleagues into the worlds of action and horror, and I hope my run will continue pushing the boundaries of what a monster-fighting story can be. I can’t wait to bring a whole new set of adventures to Buffy fans everywhere.”

Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for 144 episodes across seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, airing its first five seasons on The WB before jumping to UPN for its final two. The fan-favorite series was based upon the 1992 film of the same name, which starred Kristy Swanson as Buffy.
