Breaking Bad: Best Fights In The Series, Ranked

[ad_1]

While Breaking Bad is more about human drama and the consequences thereof, the specific nature of its plot—drugs, deaths, destruction—allows fight sequences to pop up every so often. There are very few scenes involving physical battle, though, as characters prefer using their wits before resorting to fists, guns, or other modes of combat (for the most part).

In fact, Breaking Bad intentionally coats each of its altercations with layers of emotional context, developing them into vehicles for character evolution, and vice-versa. That said, there have been some truly explosive fights over the course of the show’s five seasons.

10 Walter Mows Down A Pair Of Drug Dealers

Jesse is furious that Gus’ men “hire” children to do their dirty work and threatens his employer with serious consequences. Gus manages to soothe tensions by telling his dealers “no more children,” but they decide to tie up any loose ends by murdering Tomás.

Jesse attempts to take things into his own hands, going so far as to raise a direct challenge; however, his life is saved when Walter runs the two men over with his car (and executes a survivor point-blank).

9 Declan’s Gang Is Utterly Decimated

Declan haughtily claims that he has no intention of rehiring Todd, which forces Lydia to release Jack Welker’s gang on him and his crew. Everyone is killed in the subsequent fight, with Declan himself dying at Welker’s hands.

This slaughter is entirely offscreen, perhaps due to Lydia’s squeamishness—a fact confirmed when she tells Todd that she doesn’t want to see the aftermath of the battle, either. More importantly, this event sets the stage for the series’ final showdown.

8 Hank’s Moral Victory Over His Killers

Hank’s delight at capturing Walt is reversed when the latter’s “saviors” arrive on the scene. Despite his severe injuries and Walter’s insistence, Hank refuses to beg for his life because he knows exactly what Jack Welker has planned for an eyewitness who’s also a DEA agent.

The words exchanged between the two brothers-in-law in this scene are more piercing than any bullet can possibly be, making it a shining final moment for Hank.

7 Mike’s Sneaky Assassination Sequence

Gus’ conflict with the Mexican Cartel goes from a minor inconvenience to a life threat, partly because of his (unprovable) role in the deaths of Juan Bolsa as well as the brothers Leonel & Marco Salamanca.

In retribution, the cartel tries to abduct Gus’ methylamine intermediate, Duane Chow, but they are foiled when Mike Ehrmantraut arrives and assassinates the assassins. His last kill is especially impressive, considering he shoots a man through a wall with only ambiguous visual clues.

6 Walt Annihilates Jack Welker’s Neo-Nazi Gang

The last battle sequence in Breaking Bad takes place at the White Supremacist Compound, to which Walter brings a car laden with a remote-operated M60 machine gun in the trunk.

He saves Jesse by shoving him to the floor and pretending to fight, as the resulting hail of bullets takes Welker’s gang one by one. The carnage is complete when Walter takes the ultimate revenge on Jack, and Jesse chokes Todd to death using his manacles.

5 The Schrader Vs. Salamanca Standoff

Hank is excited at the prospect of netting a fish as big as Tuco Salamanca, but he’s distracted when Walter “goes missing.” He tracks Jesse’s Monte Carlo all the way into the desert, hoping that the young man might have some leads as to the location of his brother-in-law.

To his complete surprise, Hank finds himself facing Tuco where they both engage in a shootout. Luckily, the precision of the DEA agent’s aim turns out to be slightly better than the drug dealer’s reaction time.

4 Jesse And Walter’s Living Room Rumble

Walter requests Jesse to poison their boss with ricin, but his partner procrastinates so long that it makes him suspicious. He bugs Jesse’s car and learns about his visit to Gus, which Walter naturally assumes to mean that the two of them are plotting against him.

Jesse angrily whacks Walter in the head with the car bug, leading to an awkward (but violent) living room battle. This is the point at which the two partners’ mutual trust begins to erode, a process that reaches completion when Walter hands Jesse over to Todd.

3 Hank’s Life-Or-Death Battle With The Cousins

An unknown caller informs Hank that he is in imminent danger, prompting him to take the necessary precautions (an act that undeniably saves his life). Although unarmed against a pair of dangerous assailants, Hank’s quick thinking allows him to incapacitate Leonel by crushing the latter with his car.

Marco eventually gets the upper hand but chooses to execute Hank with an axe rather than with a gun. This sliver of time is just enough for Hank to pick up a stray bullet, reload, and fire straight through his would-be killer’s skull.

2 Walter Defeats Tuco On His Own Turf

Jesse is severely beaten up by Tuco for daring to sell meth on his turf, forcing Walter to take matters into his own hands. He dons the ‘Heisenberg’ guise for the first time, offering the drug lord the same deal as his partner—while also asking for payback on Jesse’s behalf.

Tuco scoffs at the proposal, but Walt merely responds by destroying the entire floor with a fragment of fulminated mercury. This precarious strategy pays off as Tuco willingly agrees to Walt’s “money up-front” demand.

1 The White Family Vs. Walter White

The best fight in Breaking Bad is a crucial juncture for everyone involved. With Hank dead, Walter desperately attempts to protect his family from further danger by rushing them into evacuating their home (and their lives) with zero notice.

Skyler takes her brother-in-law’s death as the last straw, ordering Walt to leave by brandishing a kitchen knife at him. The pair get into a fight, only separated when Flynn pushes his dad away and starts dialing the police. There is no coming back for Walter White, not after this moment.
