[ad_1]

A teaser image for WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s Gotham Knights centers on Batman’s death.

Gotham Knights teaser image delves into the death of Batman himself, Bruce Wayne.

The image features a burnt and bloodied Gotham Gazzette front page, the headline of which reads, “BRUCE WAYNE DEAD, WAYNE MANOR COLLAPSE CALLED FREAK ACCIDENT.” The rest of the page and the one behind it are riddled with other on-brand Easter eggs.

Gotham Knights hails from WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and the game was formally announced at 2020’s DC FanDome after months of speculation. In December 2018, an assistant producer posted a picture of a shirt with a logo that looked remarkably similar to that of the Court of Owls in the comics. Then, in January 2019, possible concept art for the game was posted online before quickly being taken down.

The first footage confirmed not only that the Court of Owls was involved in the game but also Mr. Freeze, while the core playable characters include Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood.

While Gotham Knights has some distinct similarities to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games, players should expect a whole new type of combat system. “We have entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op, because that part of the experience is really exciting for us,” executive producer Fleur Marty said in January. “But it is in many ways very different. Designing a combat system from scratch has its challenges indeed, but it’s been a very stimulating one and we’re very proud of the result. The two-player dynamic fits the fantasy and the Gotham setting. The ‘duo’ or team-up is such a central feature of the universe that there’s a literal shorthand for it in the comics, in animation, in the film and TV versions. And Gotham is a city of alleyways and rooftops, so the footprint for gameplay needs to be compatible with that.”

Originally slated for a 2021 release, Gotham Knights was delayed until 2022 in March. “We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players,” the game’s official Twitter account shared. “Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”
