This may be what any cast member is expected to say on press junkets, but according to returning star Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will “top” its Academy Award-nominated predecessor. Bassett, who will return to the world of Wakanda as Ramonda, T’Challa and Shuri’s mother and the Queen Mother of Wakanda, teased the high quality of the follow-up while appearing on The Ellen Show.

After hyping Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Basset continued, heaping praise on her dearly departed co-star Chadwick Boseman. The lead of the first Black Panther, Boseman passed away in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, and Bassett and the rest of the talent involved in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are hoping to make the best sequel possible in his honor.
“He was such an example, such a leader, an amazing talent — we all know that. Big heart, great intellect, and we just hope to raise his standard.”
The first Black Panther was a cultural, and financial, success, earning $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office and receiving seven nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including the first nomination for Best Picture for a superhero movie, Black Panther went on to win the first Academy Award for an Marvel movie, with wins for Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design.
It’s going to take a lot to top that. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in the US on November 11, 20
