Black Panther Revealed Marvel’s Other Wakanda and That Changes Everything

[ad_1]

Black Panther #3 reveals the existence of another Wakanda, and the revelation is certain to permanently change the course of the Marvel Universe.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Black Panther #3, available now from Marvel Comics.

King T’Challa’s life has taken a few unprecedented turns in recent years. Apart from the mysterious enemies that have the Black Panther locked in a deadly race across the globe, Wakanda’s transition towards a democratic government has produced its own fair share of issues. Although T’Challa is acutely aware of the problems his country is facing, he has taken a somewhat standoffish approach to dealing with them head on, leaving Marvel’s newest hero to tackle the issues while simultaneously proving the strength of an entirely different iteration of the African nation.

While T’Challa’s journey draws him all the way to the planet Arakko (formerly Mars), the political tension in Wakanda continues to build in the absence of its king. As revealed in the back-up story “The Wakandan” from Black Panther #3 (by John Ridley, German Peralta, Jesus Aburtov, and VC’s Joe Sabino), another version of the African nation is now becoming embroiled in the conflict. This story introduces the young and ambitious Tosin, and the version of Wakanda that has served as his home. His people have spent generations living off the land outside of the heart of their country, and as such have not taken part in the technological advances of the nation or their various wars over the years. Now, after watching Wakanda struggle with the outside world for so long, Tosin is intrigued by the prospect of his nation’s democratic turn.

Upon further investigation, Tosin witnesses the same infighting between the factions plaguing Wakanda’s new parliament, leaving him disappointed in the people who are tasked with leading the nation. The situation erupts into violence, and Tosin decides to do what he can to help. Although the majority of Tosin’s tribe have no interest in becoming involved in the conflicts of the nation, the aspiring hero accepts that all of Wakanda is his homeland and therefore deserving of his help.

The factions that have formed in the corners of Wakanda’s parliament are a surprising indication of the lack of direction the country faces without a true king. T’Challa’s role has been downgraded to be merely ceremonial at this point, but he is still an integral part of Wakanda’s political process. Without the Black Panther to help guide the new government, Tosin has positioned himself to both safeguard and direct the future course of Wakanda.

In all probability, Tosin won’t be the only one working toward saving Wakanda from itself. Even though he now has very few allies in what could be described as the beginnings of a coup, there are many who are sure to feel the way he does about doing everything possible to protect and save his homeland.

Tosin is already proving himself to be a hero, and appears to already hold the key to eventually saving his country from itself in the absence of the Black Panther. It can only be hoped that this new hero is able to find like-minded companions who are just as dedicated to the cause of saving their nation.
