Black Panther 2 Begins Production in Atlanta

[ad_1]

Marvel Studios President and Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige announces that Black Panther 2 has started filming.

Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever started filming in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 29 at Pinewood Studios.

The announcement came from Marvel Studios President and Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige at the Black Widow Global Fan Event in Los Angeles. “It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” Feige told Variety. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”

Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira and Martin Freeman will return for the sequel, which will build on the legacy established by the late Chadwick Boseman. Boseman starred as T’Challa in the first Black Panther film — as well as in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame — and died in August 2020 at the age of 43 due to colon cancer.

“It’s going to be different, of course, without our king [Chadwick Boseman] … but I know that all of us are dedicated to reimagining or carrying on his legacy in this new Black Panther,” Nyong’o said in an interview. Marvel Studios has no plans to recast the character of T’Challa and also said it will not insert Boseman using CGI and special effects.

Our brother held it really close, really close to the chest. But his legacy, his loss, the love and appreciation that we have for who he was and what he shared with us cannot be [replaced],” Bassett said of Boseman. “It is missed and appreciated and cannot be duplicated. It’s a tremendous honor and, yes, he is completely irreplaceable.”

Director Ryan Coogler surprised many after announcing that he would film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in Georgia despite the controversial voting law (SB 202) passed by the state legislature. While he said he was “profoundly disappointed” with the law, he noted “that many of the people employed by my film, including all the local vendors and businesses we engage, are the very same people who will bear the brunt of SB202. For those reasons, I will not be engaging in a boycott of Georgia. What I will be doing is using my voice to emphasize the effects of SB202, it’s shameful roots in Jim Crow, and doing all I can to support organizations fighting voter suppression here in the state.”

The official synopsis for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is below:

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda, and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, who was behind Black Panther, the film will be released on July 8, 2022.
