The producer of Black Adam hopes to make the DC Extended Universe even larger by developing several spinoffs from Dwayne Johnson’s unique superhero.
Black Adam has yet to grace our screens, but according to producer Hiram Garcia, there are already plans for spinoffs featuring some of the characters.
When asked about developing Black Adam and where the property could go in the future, Garcia focused on the number of new characters that will be making their live action debut next to Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. In an interview with Collider, Garcia said, “We introduce a lot of new characters in here, and a lot of these characters are big fan favorites, so we’re currently working on spinoffs that we can do for some of those characters. We’re fleshing it all out, and we have very big ambitions for it.”
Garcia acknowledged that any spinoffs are dependent on the success of Black Adam, saying, “The priority is always making sure we launch this movie right, but we’re always going to be ready when the time comes to be able to jump into those other movies and tell those stories when the fans want.”
The DC Extended Universe is no stranger to spinoffs as Peacemaker, a spinoff show from Suicide Squad, is due to debut on HBO Max on Jan. 13. The possibility of a Black Adam spinoff landing on HBO as well is something Garcia has considered. He said, “Nothing is left off the table when you’re dealing with characters of this nature and scale and in terms of how we can best deliver more content to the fans. So that continues to go, and you’re going to start to hear announcements regarding some of these characters and who we’re going to finally be able to tell a little bit more on going forward.”
The official synopsis for Black Adam was revealed to audiences recently, promising a character “bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods” who is ready to “unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.” According to Garcia, Black Adam‘s form of justice will push the PG-13 rating to its stretching point and compared the upcoming film to the darkness and grittiness of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.
Black Adam is scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2022 and will be released on HBO Max after approximately 46 days, according to WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar.
