Regular sales have become a welcome fixture on the Nintendo Switch eShop and there are huge numbers of cheap and discounted Switch games available at any given time. With so much choice it can be tough to know exactly is worth your hard-earned cash and precious time.
Never fear — Nintendo Life is here to help you sort the wheat from the chaff! Here we choose our favourite cheap Switch games in the Switch eShop sales so you can be sure you’re getting a great deal on a great game.
What do we mean by ‘best cheap Switch games’ exactly? We’re thinking anything discounted to around £10/10€ or under (GBP and EUR prices will obviously differ and sometimes won’t reflect the same percentage discount). In addition to the best cheap Switch games, we’ll also highlight a ridiculously cheap eShop game or two — we’re talking Switch games under a quid — which may be worth investigating for a few pennies, if only for a half hour or so.

Hypnospace Outlaw (Switch eShop)
Publisher: No More Robots / Developer: Tendershoot
60% off – was £15.49 / 17,19€, now £6.19 / 6,87€ until 15th Jul 2021
Hypnospace Outlaw really is like nothing else out there; at once an excellent puzzle game, razor-sharp satire and meticulously crafted slice of early-internet nostalgia that you can spend hours absolutely lost in. It’s frequently hilarious stuff that’s impeccably well-written across the board, managing to successfully bring the crazy, lawless, early rush of creativity that formed the pre-Y2K era of the internet convincingly back to life. It delivers a truly extraordinary recreation of the GeoCities era of the internet that absolutely nails its ’90s aesthetic to present a living, breathing world that’s a joy to spend time browsing around, soaking up the atmosphere and reliving the anarchic early days of the internet as you slowly untangle the puzzles at the heart of its narrative.
Slime-san (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Headup Games / Developer: Fabrik Games
66% off – was £10.00 / 11,99€, now £2.33 / 3,99€ until 30th Jul 2021
Slime-san is a brilliantly snappy, charismatic and challenging title that manages to deliver a satisfying core game with tonnes of bonus extras to play around with besides. The controls are spot-on, the environments are varied and engaging, and while other platformers may have tread similar ground before, Slime-san weaves together so many different elements into a finely-crafted experience that it deserves a place among the best in the genre. That’s not even mentioning a handful of arcade game modes, a suite of options for speedrunning, and a soundtrack that almost warrants the price of admission alone. It represents immense value for money, and if you’re itching for something weird then the future is most certainly green.
Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: Bandai Namco
70% off – was £16.99 / 19,99€, now £5.00 / 5,99€ until 10th Jul 2021
Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus is everything that fans of the classic arcade game could want out of a legacy sequel, focusing on delivering a pure, high-speed realisation of the concept that was introduced way back in 1980. Between the single player and multiplayer modes, there’s enough content here for hours of play, and it’s all endlessly replayable. We would give this game a strong recommendation to anyone that enjoys the easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master gameplay that you typically find in an arcade game; PCE2 has it in spades.
Katamari Damacy REROLL (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: Bandai Namco
75% off – was £15.99 / 19,99€, now £3.99 / 4,99€ until 10th Jul 2021
In a cynical era where nostalgia is pumped for all its worth with endless soulless remasters, Katamari Damacy Reroll serves up an engaging and rewarding game that hasn’t let any of its original charm or personality be lost in the transition from one platform to another. With support for gyro controls and multiplayer – not to mention a degree of performance that sees it run smoothly in both handheld and docked mode – this Switch edition is easily the best way to play it outside of blowing the dust off your old PS2.
Rogue Aces (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Curve Digital / Developer: Infinite State Games
80% off – was £9.99 / 12,99€, now £1.99 / 2,59€ until 18th Jul 2021
Rogue Aces is a stellar, fresh experience — even more so if you never played spiritual forerunner Wings of Fury — that landed on Switch eShop seemingly out of nowhere. It not only delivers an audio-visual treat, but also an overwhelmingly entertaining stimulation of the senses thanks to the frenetic aerial ballets you take part in. Easy to pickup but devilishly hard to walk away from, Rogue Aces demands just the right amount of arcade shmup skills and strategic planing with the odd lucky break when something just works out. All of this is complimented by some excellent humour in the form of audio quips from your Captain, the enemy Baron aces and the one-liners from ally pilots. Kick the tires and light the fires, fellow Switch pilots; this war won’t be winning itself with you sitting pretty on that carrier deck.
Velocity 2X (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Curve Digital / Developer: FuturLab
75% off – was £14.99 / 19,99€, now £3.74 / 4,99€ until 22nd Jul 2021
In an age where many indie titles are becoming increasingly reliant on procedural generation to do all the heavy lifting, it can be immensely satisfying to play a game that is tailor-made for one specific experience. Velocity 2X excels in this regard, offering up an immaculately designed, endlessly replayable arcade experience — half shoot ’em up, half platformer — that shows just how engaging twitch gameplay can be. This is one you definitely don’t want to miss out on. We’re usually happy enough to experience the ‘no filler’ part of the well-known phrase, but Velocity 2X supplies the ‘killer’ too.
Super Chariot (Switch)
Publisher: Microids / Developer: Microids
90% off – was £13.40 / 14,90€, now £1.34 / 1,49€ until 15th Jul 2021
Super Chariot is a fitting metaphor for life – you can journey alone and endure all hardships as you struggle to make your way to the end, or you can share the burden with another person and help each other reach new heights along the way. Brilliantly designed and beautifully crafted it’s not hard for us to recommend you embark on this co-op journey. May the King rest peacefully, for his chariot is made of sturdy stuff indeed.
Subsurface Circular (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Bithell Games / Developer: Ant Workshop
50% off – was £4.79 / 5,99€, now £2.39 / 2,99€ until 28th Jul 2021
Subsurface Circular is a landmark moment in interactive storytelling. The elegance of its escalation is simply unmatched, as it tells a story that makes you feel like you’re in completely over your head, and yet still perfectly believable. The characters you meet along the way all feel unique with their own personality, which makes interacting with them a test of wit and cunning as you use the conversational mechanics to their full effect. There’s nothing quite else quite like Subsurface Circular, and when that uniqueness is combined with the phenomenal narrative at hand, you have all the ingredients for a simply unforgettable and very special journey aboard the subway.
And with the growing trend of games plummeting to mere pennies, here’s our sub-£1 / 1€ pick(s) for a super cheap game that’s worth the memory space it takes up on your Switch…
Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise (Switch eShop)
95% off – was £19.99 / 19,99€, now £0.99 / 0,99€ until 22nd Jul 2021
A point-and-click aventure game with a cool ’60s styling and an intriguing story, we missed out on reviewing Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise, although Nintendo Life readers brought it to our attention. It’s a stylish little adventure and well worth investigation if you’re a fan of non-serious secret agent puzzling with the classic (or should that be cla-shic?) James Bond flavour.
Keep an eye on this page as we cycle in new bargains. If money’s no object, be sure to check out our list of the Best Nintendo Switch games, period. In the meantime, happy gaming!
