Batman Villain Trophies That Wash Up in the Finale

[ad_1]

The Season 2 finale of Batwoman saw several items belonging to iconic Batman villains find their way to Gotham City’s shore.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batwoman’s Season 2 finale, “Power,” which aired Sunday on The CW.

In the Season 2 finale of Batwoman, a number of items belonging to various Batman villains were lost in the river and washed up on Gotham City’s shore. The previous episode showed that Kate Kane had broken into the Batcave and stolen these items directly from Batman’s trophy collection, and the fact that they are now loose in Gotham City holds some chaotic implications. Let’s break down each of these trophies and how they connect to members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery.

Poison Ivy’s Plant

An eco-terrorist with the power to control plants and pheromones, Poison Ivy is a dangerously seductive foe. Over the years, she has tangled with the Dark Knight and his allies a number of times and has had a long and complicated romance with Harley Quinn. The most prominent of the items that washed up on Gotham’s shore in Batwoman was one of Ivy’s plants. Having been referenced by Safiyah in the previous episode as being needed to duplicate the Desert Rose, the plant was shown starting to rapidly grow as soon as it reached land.

Mad Hatter’s Hat

The Mad Hatter is obsessed with Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, adopting a villainous persona based on the book’s character of the same name. He frequently creates and utilizes mind-control devices that are placed in hats and is usually seen leading the Wonderland Gang. In the Batwoman finale, one of the Mad Hatter’s hats is seen floating down the river. An alternate universe doppelgänger of the villain was previously referenced in an episode of The Flash’s fifth season.

Penguin’s Umbrella

A monocle-wearing mob boss who utilizes an array of weaponized umbrellas, the Penguin is one of Batman’s few completely sane foes. He owns and operates the Iceberg Lounge, an upscale nightclub that is frequented by Gotham City’s high society. One of the Penguin’s umbrellas was among the collection of trophies, seen floating down the river along with Mad Hatter’s hat. Penguin was previously referenced in an earlier episode of Batwoman’s second season, as well as in a Season 1 episode that indicated he had been elected mayor of Gotham City at some point in the past.

Killer Croc’s Tooth

Killer Croc is a mobster who suffers from a genetic condition that gave him reptilian traits, including enhanced strength and hardened, scaly skin. A vicious foe who usually can be found living in Gotham’s sewers, Croc has come close to devouring Batman on several occasions. Killer Croc was referenced as one of Batman’s foes in Batwoman’s first season, and one of his teeth was seen among the villain trophies in Season 2’s penultimate episode, “Kane, Kate”. In the finale, the tooth’s storage container was shown on the shore where the villains’ items washed up.

Clayface’s Mud

There have been many versions of Clayface, but all of them have the ability to shape-shift thanks to their bodies being made up of malleable clay. The most famous version is actor Basil Karlo, who has proven to be a dangerous foe due to his shape-changing power, as well as his immense strength and durability. A sample of Clayface’s mud was glimpsed among Batman’s trophies in “Kane, Kate,” and the fact the finale showed it to have broken open on the shore seems to be hinting at a version of the character appearing in Batwoman‘s third season.

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton-Kane and Wallis Day as Kate Kane. Season 3 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
