Webtoon’s Batman: Wayne Family Adventures revealed the Bat-Family’s favorite superheroes and Batman was shocked that he was not one of them.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman: Wayne Family Adventures Episode 6, available now on Webtoon.
While Batman’s public image is one of a brooding loner, the truth is that Bruce has raised an entire brood of Bat-children that he loves dearly. But when the Bat-Family reveals their favorite Justice League members, Batman is shocked that he’s not anybody’s favorite.
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures Episode 6, “Favoritism,” by Starbite, Cyc Payne, Maria Lie, Lan Ma, Camille Cruz and Kielamel Sibal, sees Bruce Wayne comically descend into a state of intense frustration as the Bat-Family’s heroes reveal their favorite Justice League members. The Webtoon opens with Dick Grayson returning to Wayne Manor carrying a box filled to the brim with Justice League memorabilia he bought on sale and tells Bruce that he bought everyone merch of their favorite heroes.
Dick Grayson bought himself a Superman hoodie, which Bruce understands considering Dick spent a lot of time with Superman during World’s Finest team-ups he was growing up as Robin. In fact, when Dick transitioned from Robin to Nightwing, his name and costume were directly inspired by a Kryptonian legend Superman told him when he was trapped in the Bottled City of Kandor. Superman has always been an inspiration in Dick’s life, and Superman views him in a similar light, typically calling Dick one of the best heroes that he’s ever had the pleasure of meeting. Superman even entrusts mentoring his son Jon to Dick when he has to leave Earth.
When Bruce was training in the Batcave later in the day, Jason Todd walked by wearing a pair of Wonder Woman sweatpants. Jason greets Bruce with his trademark flippant tone, earning a wary look from his adoptive father. Jason’s admiration for Wonder Woman makes complete sense because she’s one of the few heroes that is not afraid to stand up to Batman and push his buttons, much like Jason does to Bruce. As Red Hood, he also spent a lot of time fighting evil alongside the Aramzon Artemis in the Outlaws and greatly admired her courage, even confessing he had romantic feelings for her. No doubt, Bruce’s annoyance at his pants is exactly the reaction Jason was looking for.
Afterward, Bruce was talking with Duke Thomas and Barbara Gordon about new technology Duke had to learn to use. He’s shocked when he notices they’re wearing Flash sneakers and a Black Canary T-shirt, respectively. As one of the most agile members of the Bat-Family and the only one who habitually works in plain daylight, Signal likely sees a lot of similarities between him and Flash. Meanwhile, as two founding members of the Birds of Prey, Oracle and Black Canary have been close friends and crime-fighting partners for a long time. Barbara is also a big fan of Black Canary’s music. Livid, Bruce crushed the plans he was reviewing when Stephanie Brown’s cup revealed that her favorite hero was Green Arrow.
When Bruce indignantly questioned why she liked him of all the heroes she could have chosen, she responded by saying that he was a Justice League member who fought crime without any superpowers, coyly adding that “game recognizes game.” Bruce told her that he did the exact same thing, only for Stephanie to respond that Batman was neither a blonde nor used a bow. At the Justice League’s Watchtower, surrounded by all the heroes his family liked more than him, Bruce spent the rest of the day brooding even more than usual.
While there were a few members of the Bat-family missing from this comic, it’s safe to say that they all have their own favorite Justice League member. Even among their peers, Tim Drake and Damian are the most likely to have Batman as their favorite superhero, with Damian wanting to wear the cowl since he first met his father. Since Batman almost single-handedly raised and trained most of the Bat-Family, it was only natural he expected them to view him as their favorite hero but he was not so lucky. At least he’s still Gotham’s favorite superhero.
