One particular world event in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla becomes an unexpected journey for Eivor. Here’s how to find the Comb of Champions.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has grown its open-world experience immensely since its debut in 2007. In recent games, there is plenty for players to do in terms of side content, as the series has leaned further into the RPG elements that have made games like The Witcher 3 so successful. Through these side events, players can gain a better understanding of the strange world they are exploring.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla features the franchise’s largest map yet. As a result, there are dozens of world events for Eivor to explore. These can be straightforward battles to protect a damsel in a tower or far more peculiar one, like a conversation with a man who has an axe in his head. One of the more unexpected world events is called the “Comb of Champions.” While it features a mythic title, its story is far more down to Earth.
The quest can be found in Norway, more specifically Rygjaflke, where the player is first introduced to Eivor. By traveling north-east of Fornburg, Eivor will encounter a lake with two waterfalls just north of Hildesvini’s Crag. As Eivor rides up, they hear the voices of men determined to obtain something resting somewhere at the bottom of the lake. Upon further investigation, Eivor encounters a woman named Bil, who is sitting and watching as the men try to retrieve something called the Comb of Champions.
Bil explains that whoever finds the comb will earn an evening with her. After extending an invitation to Eivor, they can dive into the frigid waters if the player desires to. While simple, there is a degree of danger involved in the task, as the waters slowly deplete Eivor’s health. To stave off death, Eivor can climb up a rock in the middle of the lake. The comb is resting at the bottom of a hole just below the rock. Should the player find it, they can return it to Bil to complete the quest.
The story continues with Eivor walking with Bil to a secluded location on a cliffside by the fire. There, Bil extends the offer to spend an intimate evening with her. From there, it’s up to the player to accept or reject the invitation. If they accept, the screen will fade to black and return with Eivor leaving Bil and the young woman letting them keep the comb as a keepsake.
“Comb of Champions” sets itself up as a quest that could take time and require preparation, but in reality, it’s incredibly straightforward. Unlike the wilder, mystical stories Valhalla tells, this quest is grounded in reality and human desires. While it’s a brief quest, it show just how interesting and unpredictable this game can be.
