As Icon and Rocket’s ongoing adventures reveal, the Milestone Universe has its own Wonder Woman, and she can do things DC’s Diana never could.
WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Icon & Rocket: Season One #4, on sale now.
It’s no secret that Icon is Milestone’s version of Superman, and he’s a highly effective hero at that. But recent issues of his new comic book series have slowly started introducing Milestone’s answer to Wonder Woman, Xiomara. Though fans have yet to see her in a colorful costume, it’s clear that Xiomara not only possesses many similar traits as Diana. But she is more than just a Wonder Woman duplicate, Xiomara also possesses unique mental abilities of her own that might actually make her more powerful than the DC Universe’s Amazon.
Xiomara first appeared as an attorney for the mother of Rocket, Icon’s human sidekick. She stopped the young hero’s parent from incriminating herself accidentally when some police officers were applying pressure. Her tall physique and no-nonsense attitude quickly scared off the would-be arrestors, but they made a side comment that “amazons” wouldn’t be able to protect Rocket’s mother all the time. This, of course, turned out to be false. Xiomara’s abilities were not just limited to being an excellent lawyer, but also a wonderful bodyguard.
When Benedict Lord attacked Rocket’s home, Xiomara literally scaled the building to reach Rocket’s mother in time to save her. In Icon & Rocket: Season One #4 (by Reginald Hudlin, Leon Chills, Doug Braithwaite, Andrew Currie, Brad Anderson and AndWorld Design,) Xiomara went toe-to-toe with the same alien that managed to wound Icon over a century ago. Xiomara went up against an enemy that caught Icon off guard and not only managed to survive, but also robbed him of his quarry, leaping out of the burning building with Rocket’s mother in tow.
Beyond the incredible feats of strength, Xiomara also possesses her own jet and uses it to move on from the scene and giving Icon and Rocket a way to find her should they need to. The parallels to Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet are obvious, but Xiomara possesses more than just similar powers and tech to Diana.
She also has telepathic powers, which enable her to communicate with — and potentially keep tabs on — Icon across vast distances. That alone makes her an extremely dangerous potential enemy and invaluable ally to have.
Of course, there’s also considerable mystery around Xiomara too. She clearly works with an unknown group of people, whether they be the Milestone versions of the Amazons, a new kind of superhero team, or something else entirely that makes her even more of a wild card.
All in all, these additional resources might make Xiomara more powerful than Wonder Woman. With telepathy, there is no need for a lasso of truth as she can simply read minds and it also provides her with an immediate way to keep in contact with allies. While there is still much more to learn about her, Xiomara has thus far already made a strong impression on the MIlestone Universe.
