AG Nonsuch Interview – All Ages of Geek

If you’re in a fandom, there’s a good chance you’ve become acquainted with the creators online who make fanfiction or fanart of your favorite pieces of media. You may even be able to see a piece of art and know automatically who drew it. That’s me with the artist A.G Nonsuch

I found A.G through RWBY twitter, and I’ve been following her for a few years now. Her style is instantly recognizable to me, and a good bit of other people in the RWBY fandom as well. After all, A.G has been recognized by Rooster Teeth multiple times. The chances that you follow any RWBY page and haven’t seen her art are slim to none.

A.G has become one of my very favorite artists, so I was excited to pitch my idea to interview her. I was even more excited that she agreed!

Let’s get into it!

1. How long have you been drawing?

A.G: I’ve been drawing since I was a young child, but I’ve definitely taken it more serious in the last couple years.

2. What brought you to RWBY?

A.G: Total coincidence. I decided to put it on while cleaning one day and didn’t actually pay attention. By the time Pyrrha dies, I decided it was time to sit down and watch it for real.

3. Did you ever think you’d be as recognizable as an artist as you are?

A.G: I don’t know if I’m really that recognizable, to tell you the truth, but I definitely didn’t expect anything.

4. What’s your favorite thing to draw?

A.G: I love drawing stupid faces in my comics. The funny thing is I always make the face while drawing it.

5. Is there something you haven’t done artistically that you really want to try?

A.G: I really want to do a children’s book about bugs. It’s been on my radar for ages but I just haven’t done it yet.

6. Who are some of your favorite artists or inspirations?

A.G: Charles Shulz. Peanuts has always been my favorite comic as a kid and it will always be timeless. A more modern pick would be Reza Farazmand, creator of Poorly Drawn Lines. I just love the idea of a weekly comic column. They’re simple but they bring weekly comfort and laughter. Hard to have that in the world that we live in so that’s what I strive to do.

7. What’s the thing you’re most proud of?

A.G: I can’t quite quantify it in a single piece or thing, but every time someone tells me that my drawings have brought some sort of joy to them or that they always have something to look forward to in my art, that’s what I’m most proud of.

8. What’s a milestone you hope you hit in the next year?

A.G: I try not to think of the future too much and I don’t really believe in quantifying success by following. Just gotta run my own race and continue to stay true to myself.

9. Any advice to aspiring artists?

A.G: Never stop drawing, but also remind yourself that you are not your work, and you gotta stop for yourself sometimes. I know it sounds like a bit of a conundrum, but it’s true, you gotta learn to balance it.

10. Anything you’d like to say or ask? Or maybe even promote?

A.G: You don’t have to follow me, but if you like to, and I would like you to, check me out on the twitters, grams, and webtoons! Or don’t… I can’t really make you, but it would be cool! Thanks, Bye!

As an aspiring artist myself, A.G has been a big inspiration to me. I’ve only been drawing seriously for a few years now, but people like A.G, as well as my best friends who are incredible artists, are the reason I continue to push myself.

A.G’s art is proof to me that art can be whatever you want. If you love something, if you have passion for something, that’s going to show in the things you create. And I don’t think there’s anything more incredible than that.
