Mel Gibson will be making his way to the tiny screen in the not-too-distant future. The Oscar winner just landed a role in “The Continental,” a prequel series to the “John Wick” franchise According to Deadline, the three-night miniseries was first commissioned by Starz in 2018, and Gibson, 65, will play a character named Cormac.
Told through the eyes of a teenage Winston Scott, who was played by Ian McShane in the film franchise starring Keanu Reeves, “The Continental” will explore the origins of the hotel for assassins. He is then dragged into the hellscape of 1975 New York City, where he is forced to confront his past.
After the news was announced, some leftists and partisan media outlets quickly pounced on the news to bash the actor over his own controversial past. Perhaps the most severe was at the Daily Dot.

But it wasn’t just the Daily Dot clutching their pearls:

Then Daily Dot’s Gavia Baker-Whitelaw breathlessly joined the Cancel Culture chorus herself with the following biased recollection of all the reasons Gibson is a bad-bad man:
Gibson has been accused in the past of racism, sexism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism. He was accused of physically and emotionally abusing his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who released a notorious 2010 audiotape in which Gibson admitted to hitting her, threatened to burn the house down, used the N-word, and said that Grigorieva deserved to be raped. (Gibson pleaded no contest in court and was sentenced to community service and a fine.)
Coupled with his 2006 DUI arrest (during which he allegedly went on an anti-Semitic rant and sexually harassed his arresting officer), this led to a temporary slow-down in Gibson’s career. But over the next few years, he was welcomed back into the Hollywood fold, with Hacksaw Ridge (which he directed) earning six Oscar nominations in 2016. His thriving career is often used as proof that “cancel culture” doesn’t exist for A-list stars, and he remains a controversial figure. Hence the reactions to this John Wick news.
An allegation of anti-Semitism, and a no-contest plea for the accusations leveled at him from an unpleasant and apparently violent altercation with his ex-girlfriend, both incidents over a decade old. Cancel Culture is not a forgiving bunch, making it the new religion for the woke. Can’t we show people a little grace? The man has made amends and asked forgiveness. Get over yourselves.
