A new Batman LEGO set is ready for purchase, this time it’s a small-scale replica of the 1966 “Bright Knight” Batman’s headgear as seen on television.
Holy do-it-yourself, Batman! Now every DC Bat-fan has a chance to buy and construct their very own LEGO replica of Adam West’s iconic Batman mask.
LEGO released details about the cowl to its online store, currently priced at $59.99. According to LEGO, the cowl is “specially created with adult fans in mind.” Comprised of 372 pieces, this set not only includes the blue West cowl — complete with details on the eyes and bat-wing ears — but also comes with a special display stand and an information plaque. The mask measures 7 inches high, 3 inches wide and 4 inches deep and can be “displayed in your home or workspace,” the website continued.
The Adam West cowl marks LEGO’s second variation of a Batman head collectible, following the official release of its LEGO DC Batman: Batman Cowl this year. Other similarly-designed products include the Marvel characters Iron Man and Venom, as well as Star Wars helmets belonging to Darth Vader, Boba Fett and different Imperial divisions like Stormtrooper and TIE Fighter Pilot.
Adam West starred as the Caped Crusader on ABC’s genre-defining Batman series alongside Burt Ward’s Robin, which ran for three seasons between 1966 and 1968. The show, while originally criticized by fans for its overt campiness, was nevertheless widely successful in popularizing Batman, Robin and their rogues gallery across the late 20th century, as well as the general popularity of superhero and comic book adaptations. Though other actors have since played Batman in live-action, ranging from Michael Keaton to Ben Affleck to, most recently, The Batman‘s Robert Pattinson, the ’60s TV universe would be regularly homaged and continued in both a 30-issue DC comic series and two animated movies, with West and Ward voicing their roles for the latter. West died in 2017 from leukemia, making the animated Batman movie Batman vs. Two-Face his final performance.
West, who suffered from typecasting following Batman‘s cancelation, later found success as a voice actor on shows like Family Guy and The Fairly OddParents. He also voiced several characters in Batman cartoons, including actor Simon Trent in Batman: The Animated Series‘ “Beware the Grey Ghost,” and Thomas Wayne in Batman: The Brave and the Bold‘s “Chill of the Night.”
LEGO’s Classic TV Series Batman™ Cowl is now available for pre-order.
