A Justice League Villain Cut a Deal With DC’s Nick Fury

[ad_1]

As Mister Bones continues to rollout his agenda for the entire DC Multiverse, he decides to make a secret alliance with the deadliest supervillain.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Infinite Frontier #4, on sale now from DC.

As the DC Universe’s resident Nick Fury, D.E.O. Director Mister Bones is a master manipulator and someone capable of working all the morally ambiguous angles in order to get the job done. And while Bones has often maintained a tenuous alliance with the DCU’s superhero community, with the heroes tacitly approving of his methods to achieve common goals, reining him in in the instances where he does cross the line, Bones’ latest alliance may be the one step too far that will put him at odds with heroes as Bones has appeared to cut a deal with New God of Evil himself, Darkseid. And with the Lord of Apokolips now in his corner, Bones may have broken bad for good while unwittingly making him and the D.E.O. pawns of Darkseid.

Throughout Infinite Frontier, Bones began to expand the D.E.O.’s agenda to the reborn multiverse, exploring the fallout left from the crossover event Dark Nights: Death Metal. This included recruiting Cameron Chase back into the D.E.O. and developing spacecraft capable of navigating the Bleed, the extra-dimensional void between alternate universes and alternate timelines. And as Green Lantern Alan Scott and his son Obsidian investigate the D.E.O.’s activities in relation to missing Justice Society of America heroes, they discover that not only is Bones linked to the attack but he has formed an alliance with a powerful villain in order to keep the main DCU safe from further attacks in a shocking twist from Infinite Frontier #4 by Joshua Williamson, Paul Pelletier, Jesus Merino, Xermanico, Norm Rapmund, Raul Fernandez, Hi-Fi and Tom Napolitano.

Without naming Darkseid outright, Bones observes that the DCU has been facing reality-shaking threats with increased frequency lately, from the Anti-Monitor to Perpetua and the Darkest Knight. Feeling that the DCU can’t withstand another attack of this magnitude when it inevitably arises, Bones made a deal with the powerful villain under the guarantee that the main DCU would remain safe in the face of a future attack. Given Darkseid’s rise to target the multiverse from his home base on Earth Omega and Bones warning Chase that his benefactor located in a “place of endings,” matching the nature of Earth Omega, Darkseid is the likely partner that Bones has joined with in order to keep the DCU safe.

Between Bones targeting the Justice Society, entering an alliance with the longtime Green Lantern villain Hector Hammond and staging the attack of one of an alternate universe Captain Atom linked to Darkseid on Chase, nearly claiming her life in an effort to convert Chase further to the D.E.O.’s cause, Bones has grown from master spy to outright supervillain, matching his origins. Chase obviously doesn’t take this revelation well, shooting Bones in the kneecaps to prevent him from stopping her as she seizes one of his multiversal spaceships in order to confront Darkseid directly, ignoring Bones’ cries for her to relent and understand the decisions he made.

Mister Bones has made a lot of deals and backdoor dealings in order to accomplish his goals but, teamed up with Darkseid, he has finally and irrevocably crossed the line. Now hunting heroes and actively working with some of the most sinister figures in the multiverse, Bones’ obsession with defending the DCU has led him to become the very thing that he sought to prevent as the multiverse faces a new threat in the resurgent Darkseid. And with the D.E.O. under his command, Bones remains a major threat for the heroes moving forward, even with Chase against him.
