A Forgotten Marvel Netflix Team May Get a Dark Cosmic Upgrade

[ad_1]

While the Daughters of the Dragon may not have had the chance to shine much in the MCU, Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY has given the duo a cosmic mission.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

There have been major changes to Spider-Man’s world as of late, with Peter Parker rendered comatose while his clone Ben Reilly reclaims the mantle in hopes of defending New York City. However, Ben isn’t taking on these superhero responsibilities alone, with the Beyond Corporation purchasing the official Spider-Man proprietary license and providing Reilly with the support of Misty Knight and Colleen Wing as his trainers and mentors. As the Daughters of the Dragon move on to the field, they face a new superhero team-up that could take this streetwise duo to epic, cosmic heights.

The Daughters of the Dragon is the nickname sardonically given to Misty and Colleen in 1977’s Marvel Team-Up #64 by the longtime Iron Fist villain, the Steel Serpent. The two redefined the title as a badge of honor, and have been crimefighting partners for years. The Daughters were paired together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Iron Fist Netflix series after the two first met in the crossover series The Defenders.

While many of the MCU Netflix heroes have since fallen by the wayside (including the Daughters of the Dragon), Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY (by Jed McKay, Eleonora Carlini, Federico Blee and VC’s Joe Caramagna) gives the two heroes the chance for a team-up with a cosmic character only recently introduced to the MCU.

As part of Spider-Man’s rigorous training regimen, Colleen has programmed a training exercise that pits the web-slinging superhero against a veritable house of horrors as he has to survive an adventure in a haunted version of Avengers Mansion. However, while using an experimental weapon prepared by Beyond, the Daughters of the Dragon are transported into their own training program. Misty and Colleen escape the virtual nightmare and entrusts the obsidian star powered tech to the hero Photon, aka Monica Rambeau, who has an idea on what to do with it.

While Monica Rambeau appeared as a child in 2019’s Captain Marvel, she returned as an adult in Marvel Studios’ inaugural Disney+ original series WandaVision. Now working for the government organization S.W.O.R.D., Monica infiltrates a small town community that Wanda Maximoff has used her powers to transform and set apart from the rest of the world. Rambeau’s continued exposure to the magical hex field around the town affects her body on a cellular level, potentially granting her with powers. And with most of Monica’s adventures in the comics taking her deep into the cosmos under a variety of superhero monikers including Captain Marvel, Photon, Spectrum and Pulsar, she likely knows a place in the expanses of the Marvel Universe to safeguard the powerful obsidian star.

There’s currently no indicator that the Daughters of the Dragon are heading to space with Monica as they’re too busy dealing with their corporate overlords at Beyond, but the possibility remains open. Photon has recently formed her own vendetta against the Beyond Corporation and, given the way the company is treating Ben, they definitely have comeuppance heading their way.

With the obsidian star in their possession, the Daughters of the Dragon and Photon have a powerful weapon at their disposal, and the endless confines of space may be the perfect place to uncover the depth of this dangerous item.
