Mezco Toyz announces it will release a new Doctor Doom figure as part of its One:12 Collective line.
Legendary Marvel Comics villain Doctor Doom is set to join Mezco Toyz’ One:12 Collective line of collectible figures.
As part of Mezco Con 2021, Mezco revealed the One:12 Collective Doctor Doom, with two photos of the collectible figure being shared in a post to Twitter. Apart from these images, however, no other information on the product is currently available. Mezco has not revealed any specs at this time, nor did the toy company give a release window for its take on Doctor Doom.
Created by the incomparable duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the character of Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, first appeared in 1962’s Fantastic Four #5. While Doom is best known as the arch-nemesis of the Fantastic Four, he has been a thorn in the side of many other Marvel heroes over the years. Doctor Doom has even tried being a hero in his own right on occasion, most notably as the Infamous Iron Man — though Human Torch didn’t exactly buy the supposed face turn.
Nevertheless, in addition to countless animated appearances, Doctor Doom has been adapted into live-action multiple times over the years. Played by Joseph Culp, the character appeared in the unreleased 1994 independent film The Fantastic Four. While that movie never (officially) saw the light of day, Doom would grace the silver screen yet, being played by Julian McMahon in both the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Doom was later played by Toby Kebbell in the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot film. At one point, Legion creator Noah Hawley was developing a Doctor Doom solo film at 20th Century Fox. Mads Mikkelsen expressed interest in taking over the role, having previously auditioned to play Doom in the 2015 film. However, the Hawley-directed project has been in limbo since The Walt Disney Company’s 2019 acquisition of Fox. Marvel Studios is currently developing a new Fantastic Four movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Jon Watts attached to direct.
