Every Major MCU Villain Who Has Been Killed (& By Whom)

[ad_1]

The MCU has introduced dozens of villains over the years, and while many are still alive and well, there are just as many who have been permanently dealt with. Some of these villains were legitimate threats to not only the planet but also the universe as a whole, though some had much smaller ambitions such as revenge or money.

Some of these villains could have had longer runs in the MCU, but unfortunately, the heroes they faced felt they were big enough threats to put them down for good. With some dead villains being so likable and relatable, some fans can’t help but wish for another appearance. However, many of these villains likely would have found a way to accomplish their goals no matter what so it’s probably for the best that they are gone.

13 Iron Man (& Pepper) Kills His First Real Foe, The Iron Monger

Iron Monger Iron Man

Obadiah Stane presumably starts out as a mentor to Tony after the passing of his parents, but eventually, Obi turns to evil and even has Tony kidnapped in an effort to take control of Stark Industries. The final showdown between Iron Man and Iron Monger is Tony’s first real challenge in the suit, aside from the icing problem.

Tony manages to damage some critical systems in Obi’s suit which buys him enough time to talk Pepper through overloading the full-sized arc reactor. It was a team effort to take down the Iron Monger, though it wouldn’t have been possible without Tony.

12 Tony & Rhodey Take Out Whiplash, So He Kills Himself

Whiplash from Iron Man 2

Ivan Vanko first goes after Iron Man during the Grand Prix in Monaco, causing quite a scene and making life very difficult for Tony. After a prison break, courtesy of Justin Hammer, Vanko develops a much better Whiplash armor, which turns out to be quite a test for Iron Man and War Machine.

When Ivan Vanko is eventually overpowered by Tony and Rhodey, he accepts defeat and enacts his backup plan which is to self-destruct his suit as well as all of the drones he built. His suit explodes with him still in it, sealing his fate as Tony flies off to rescue Pepper.

11 Thor & Jane Take Down Malekith Before His Ship Falls On Top Of Him

While Malekith ultimately dies by being crushed by his own spacecraft, it’s Thor and Jane that remove him from the Convergence and put him in a position to be crushed. Using the devices Dr. Selvig developed to interact with the Convergence, Jane and Thor are able to transport Malekith far away from the Convergence.

Thor ends up knocked out after the final blow and Malekith ends up defeated (and in multiple pieces) in another realm. As Malekith’s ship begins to fall, Jane foolishly attempts to shield Thor from the impact, though luckily, the ship falls into one of the Convergence portals and crushes the remaining bits of Malekith instead.

10 Tony & Mostly Pepper Put An End To Aldrich Killian

Aldrich Killian

Aldrich Killian was almost too much for Tony even after he blew Killian up in one of his suits. Luckily, Pepper had been given the Extremis formula (successfully) and was able to finish Killian as Tony watched in amazement.

Killian was coming after Tony but was met by Pepper and her new incredible strength. After fending Killian off with some kind of pipe, she manages to swipe an arm from one of Tony’s suits, batting Killian away once more before kicking a missile in his direction and exploding it with a well-placed repulsor shot.

9 The Former Head Of Hydra, Alexander Pierce, Is Shot By Director Nick Fury

robert redford as alexander pierce

Once it was found out that Hydra had been living in secrecy in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s shadow, it was revealed that Secretary Alexander Pierce had been the head of Hydra all along. Toward the end of the film, he had been found out and was on his way to prison before he attempted a last-ditch effort to escape by activating the councils’ nametags which were actually weapons.

Luckily, Natasha is able to reset the chest-dissolving mechanism with one of her electrical charges. This created enough time for Fury to promptly shoot Pierce twice in the chest, ending his run as the head of Hydra.

8 The Guardians Of The Galaxy Collectively Defeat Ronan With The Power Stone

Ronan the Accuser was a Kree zealot that wanted nothing more than to wipe out Xandar and all of its inhabitants regardless of whatever treaties had been brokered between his people and theirs. Ronan planned to use the Power Stone to wipe out Xandar, but luckily Rocket and Drax were able to blast the Stone off of his war hammer.

Quill and Ronan reach for the Stone at the same time and Quill manages to grab the Stone just before Ronan. The Stone begins to destroy Peter until Gamora, Rocket, and Drax join him, which stabilizes the Stone long enough for the Guardians to end Ronan and his extremist mission.

7 Rocket Makes A Bomb That Blows Up Ego’s Brain

MCU Ego

When Peter Quill finally meets his father, he’s overcome with joy and is happy to have finally met him after so much time. However, the mood quickly changes when Ego’s evil intentions are made known and the Guardians are forced to put the brain of a Celestial down for the count.

Most of the team is able to distract Ego while Baby Groot plants the makeshift bomb Rocket created. Luckily, Groot hits the correct button on the timer, giving the Guardians enough time to escape before the bomb goes off which almost instantly kills Ego.

6 T’Challa Got The Better Of Killmonger On The Maglev Train Track

Killmonger Challenges Wakanda

While Killmonger may have been the better fighter thanks to his military experience, T’Challa was the superior tactician which helped him edge out his cousin in a fight to the death. During their final fight, they went blow for blow both having the Heart-Shaped Herb in their system and both having Shuri-designed Vibranium suits.

Luckily, T’Challa knows of the Vibranium dampers on the Maglev Train and waits for the right moment to use them to his advantage. When the dampers are activated, T’Challa lands a dagger in a spot where Killmonger’s suit nanites had fully receded. T’Challa helps Killmonger see a Wakandan sunset before Killmonger removes the dagger and dies on the spot.

5 It’s Presumed That Surtur Killed Hela During Ragnarok

While it has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, it is assumed that Hela died at the hands of Surtur when he destroyed Asgard during Ragnarok. She had the upper hand against Thor and company until Loki unleashed Surtur, thus kicking off Ragnarok.

Hela attempts to ward of Surtur as her power is derived from Asgard, but as he is the size of a mountain he is unphased by her attacks. He then plunges his sword directly into the heart of Asgard, seemingly with Hela impaled on the tip, destroying the planet in what looks like a nuclear explosion.

4 Thanos & The Black Order Are All Killed Twice In Various Ways

Thanos & The Black Order from the MCU

Thanos and the Black Order not only die after the events of Infinity War, but their 2014 counterparts die during Endgame as well. During Infinity War, Tony blasted a hole in the hull of Ebony Maw’s spacecraft, resulting in him being sucked out into the vacuum of space and dying in the cold expanse. Proxima Midnight is flung into a Thresher by Wanda, Corvus Glaive is hoisted upon his own glaive by a dying Vision, and Cull Obsidian ends up getting smashed into oblivion against Wakanda’s protective barrier thanks to Bruce. Thanos doesn’t die during the Battle of Wakanda, but Thor decapitated him a few weeks later on Thanos’ Garden.

3 Villain-Turned-Hero, Loki, Is Killed When Thanos Snaps His Neck

Unfortunately, just after Loki decides to forego his mischievous ways and become a hero like his brother, he is murdered in cold blood by Thanos. After the Hulk was unable to defeat Thanos, Loki pledges his undying loyalty to the Mad Titan before immediately attempting to kill him with a small dagger.

Thanos was wise to his ruse and easily overpowered Loki without needing to activate either Stone he had acquired. Thor could do nothing but watch as Thanos snapped Loki’s neck before laying his lifeless corpse at Thor’s feet and telling him “No resurrections this time.”

2 Karli Morgenthau & The Flash-Smashers Were Killed By Sharon Carter, John Walker, & Baron Zemo

While the Flag-Smashers meant well, they were going about their mission wrong, especially once Karli started to become unhinged and began killing innocent bystanders. Nico was the first Flag-Smasher to go down, he died at the hands of John Walker after Karli killed Walker’s best friend, Lemar.

Karli died from a gunshot wound she received from Sharon Carter during a final standoff in the series finale. The remaining Flag-Smashers were killed by Zemo’s butler (on Zemo’s orders) when the butler activated a bomb on the transport vehicle for the remaining Super Soldiers.

WARNING: The Entry Below Contains Heavy Spoilers!

1 The Latest To Go Down Was The Deplorable Dreykov Thanks To Yelena Belova

While fans had heard the phrase “Dreykov’s daughter” uttered in the past by Loki during the first Avengers film, they didn’t really know what it meant, at least until some significant information came to light during Black Widow. Dreykov is revealed to be the head of the Red Room and since Natasha’s stay, he had significantly upgraded his organization.

Eventually, Natasha and her Russian sleeper family end up taking down Dreykov’s flying fortress which is the latest location of the Red Room. Just as Dreykov and his goons look like they are about to escape, Yelena Belova jams a staff into one of their jet engines causing the jet to explode, killing everyone inside, including the despicable piece of human garbage known as Dreykov.
