Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel’s planned Black Panther sequel, must be a hard endeavor for all involved, as they labor tirelessly to continue the legacy of both the beloved comic book character and the late brilliant star Chadwick Boseman. Angela Bassett, a returning actor, has now provided some insight into the difficulty of completing this assignment, stating that there have been up to five revisions of the Black Panther 2 script and counting.
“I don’t know what it’s going to look like at all. There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one’s coming. Of course, with our dear king going on to glory, a lot of things had to be shifted and changed, so thankfully, Ryan [Coogler] and Joe Robert Cole, they’re just such masterful storytellers that they’ve found a way into this world and hopefully it will be satisfying, I think, for the fans and it will be honorable of our Chad. We love our king.”
Boseman, who played T’Challa AKA Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War before taking the lead in the 2018 solo adventure, died in August of last year after a secret battle with cancer. The original concept for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was for Boseman to reprise the role and continue his exploits in the MCU, but that has now had to be revised in order to best continue the story in his absence.
The cast and crew have certainly not taken this lightly, with director Ryan Coogler recently highlighting the hardship of putting together the sequel without its primary star. “You know, one thing I’ve learned in my short or long time on this planet, depending on how you look at it, is that it’s difficult to have perspective on something when you’re going through it. Having to be a part of keeping this project continuing without this specific individual is one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever gone through in my life. Who was the glue that kept it all together?”
Plot information for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are normally kept under wraps, but a recent source claims to reveal the broad outline of the film, and that a fight between the fabled underwater city of Atlantis and Wakanda will be central to the plot. “Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increasing militaristic powers that choose to segregate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a manner, fear,” the rumored logline begins.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
